INDIANOLA, Iowa — For the fourth time this season, the Saint Mary's University men's soccer team had a player post a multiple-goal game Wednesday in the Cardinals' nonconference game against Simpson.
Â
Unfortunately,
Eli Szymanski's (La Crosse, Wis.) first collegiate two-goal effort was not enough to lift the Cardinals past the Storm, as Simpson scored the game's first five goals in dealing Saint Mary's a 5-2 setback.
Â
Simpson did not waste any time getting its offense cranked up, as Alan Imanovic netted the first goal in the 12th minute, and, 17 minutes later, Enrique Idehen found the back of the net to push the Storm's lead to 2-0.
Â
The Storm's high-powered was silenced over the final 24 minutes of the first half, but once the second half got rolling, they were at it again, scoring three times in a 12-minute span — the first by Tanner Alderson, followed by goals from Danny Haisch and Julius Cooper — to make it a 5-0 Simpson lead.
Â
Szymanski broke the ice for Saint Mary's, scoring in the 78th minute, and the sophomore added his second of the game — and third of the season — 10 minutes later.
Â
The Cardinals (3-4-0 overall) return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, entertaining Augsburg in a 1 p.m. matchup at Ochrymowycz Field.
