ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The Saint Mary's University volleyball team entered Friday's first match of the Augustana Viking Classic on the heels of a convincing 3-0 win over Macalester last Wednesday.
And when the dust settled Friday evening, the Cardinals had picked up right when they left off on Wednesday — leaving the court on a winning not.
The Cardinals got 53 assists from
Lillian Braun (Mantorville, Minn.), not to mention 15 kills from
Linnaea Wallis (Dresser, Wis.) and 14 from
Daynalyn Jostock (Millville, Minn.), en route to a 3-1 win over Coe.
Saint Mary's opened the nonconference match with a 25-21 win, and, after a 25-23 loss in Set 2, regrouped to post 25-18 and 25-22 wins in posting its second straight win — and third win in the last four matches.
Along with the offensive performances of Braun, Wallis, and Jostock, the Cardinals also boasted three players with 20 or more digs, led 26-dig efforts from both
Carley Cronen (Kandiyohi, Minn.) and
Lexi Barth (Byron, Minn.), while
DeJaye Baab (Wabasha, Minn.) chipped in 22.
The Cardinals (10-6 overall) are back in action with a pair of matches on Saturday in the final day of the Viking Classic. Saint Mary's will face Wartburg at 10 a.m., before closing out the two-day tournament with a noon showdown against host Augustana.
