LAKE GENEVA, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University men's golf team was a model of consistency during the opening round of the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational Sunday afternoon at The Highlands Golf Course.
The Cardinals top four individuals were all within three shots — led by
Bryce Galewski (Winona, Minn.) — and are sitting in 12th place in the 16-team field following the opening round of the 36-hole event.
Concordia (Wis.) fired an opening-round 292 to grab a four-shot lead over Edgewood. Marian (297), Carthage (297), and the University of Dubuque (301) and MSOE (301) rounded out the top five, with the Cardinals sitting 12
th after a first-day 317.
Galewski turned in Saint Mary's low round of the day, shooting a seven-over 78, one shot in front of
Cooper Craiger (Des Moines, Iowa) and
Alex Allen (Monticello, Minn.), while
Blair Sanders (Kansas City, Mo.) rounded out the top four with an 81.
Concordia's Sam Schlosser, Gavin Paper of the University of Dubuque, and Lakeland's Henry Wojtzak share the individual lead after shooting identical even-par 71s, one shot in front of Edgewood's Matthew Davidson and Jackson Eversoll, and Trent Thomas of Marian.
The second round of the two-day event is set for Monday at the par-72 The Brute Golf Course in Lake Geneva, Wis.
