EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Fresh off a record-setting performance at the season-opening Twin Ports Collegiate last Saturday, the Saint Mary's men's golf team was putting up impressive numbers once again on Sunday during the opening round of the UW-Eau Claire Wrigglesworth Invitational.
Bryce Galewski (Winona, Minn.) — who carded a school-record six-under-par 65 last Saturday to claim medalist honors in the Twin Ports Collegiate — posted an opening-round even-par 72 Sunday to lead the Cardinals to an eighth-place team showing.
Along with Galewski's even-par effort,
Joe Abdo (Edina, Minn.) chipped in a four-over 76, while
Cooper Craiger (Des Moines, Iowa) delivered a seven-over 79 and
Blair Sanders (Kansas City, Mo. / 82) and
Caleb Gundberg (Albertville, Minn. / 87) rounded out the Saint Mary's lineup.
UW-Eau Claire and Nebraska Wesleyan share the first-day team lead with 287s, with UW-Superior three shots back and Edgewood and Marian just four shots off the lead.
Nebraska Wesleyan's Alex Kubik turned in the best individual round of the day, shooting a six-under 66 and holds a three-shot lead over teammate Christian Hall and Alex Rogan of UW-Eau Claire.
The Cardinals close out the 36-hole Wigglesworth Invitational on Monday, heading to the Eau Claire Golf & Country Club.
