WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. — For the second straight match, the Saint Mary's University women's tennis team turned in a dominating performance — rolling to an 8-1 nonconference win over Northwestern at Lifetime Fitness.

The Cardinals — who opened the season last week with a 9-0 win over Martin Luther — picked up straight-set wins in five of the six singles matches, while sweeping through the three doubles contests.

"The ladies played a great match from start-to-finish," said Saint Mary's coach Jeff Halberg. "I'm very proud of their effort tonight."

Colleen Lois (Green Bay, Wis.) posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, while Cassandra Barr (Eau Claire, Wis.) and Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.) delivered 6-1, 6-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Maggie Frye (Colorado Springs, Colo.) chipped in a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 and Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.) delivered a 6-0, 7-5 triumph at No. 5.

Lois and Barr teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, with Frye/Becker adding an 8-3 win at No. 2 and Johnson/Maddie Dosser (South St. Paul, Minn.) chipping in an 8-7 victory at No. 3.

The Cardinals (2-0 overall) return home to the Winona Tennis Center next Saturday, playing host to UW-Superior in a 7 p.m. nonconference match. The Eagles (0-1 overall), meanwhile, hit the road on Saturday, traveling to Sta-Fit in Sartell, Minn., for a 4:30 p.m. nonconference match against Saint Benedict.
