WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team continued to flex its early season muscles on Saturday, as the Cardinals pushed their season-opening winning streak to three with another lopsided victory — this one an 8-1 decision over UW-Superior at the Winona Tennis Center.

The Cardinals — who had now on their three 2020 matches by counts of 9-0, 8-1, and 8-1 — took control early, dropping just seven games in sweeping the three doubles matches. Colleen Lois (Green Bay, Wis.) and Cassandra Barr (Eau Claire, Wis.) teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 1, while Kennedy Morgan ()/Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.) were 8-3 winners at No. 2, and Maggie Frye (St. James, Minn.)/Zoie Becker () added an 8-2 win at No. 3.

And the dominance continued in singles, as Saint Mary's delivered five straight-set wins — including 6-0, 6-0 wins by Lois and Barr at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, a 6-0, 6-2 win by Frye at No. 5, and a 6-0, 6-1 triumph by Becker at No. 6. Morgan rounded out the singles wins with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3, while Johnson suffered the lone loss, going to a third set before suffering a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 loss at No. 4.

The Cardinals (3-0 overall) are back in action with three matches next weekend. Saint Mary's kicks off Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 6 p.m. showdown against St. Thomas on Friday, before heading to Owatonna, Minn., for a 1 p.m. nonconference match against Northwestern (Iowa). Saint Mary's will then return to the Winona Tennis Center on Sunday, squaring off against Gustavus at noon. The Yellowjackets (0-0 overall), meanwhile, are right back in action on Sunday, heading to Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville, Minn., for a nonconference matchup against St. Thomas.
