• 2: The Saint Mary’s men’s hockey team’s 3-2 loss to Saint John’s last Saturday was its second overtime game of the season. SMU dropped a 4-3 OT decision to Lake Forest in its season-opener on Nov. Oct. 29.
• 2: Allie Urlaub (Burnsville, Minn.) picked up her first collegiate multiple-goal game, scoring both goals in the SMU women’s hockey team’s 2-1 win over Saint Benedict last Friday. The two-goal game was Saint Mary’s first since Anne Carmean (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) found the back of the net twice in the Cardinals’ 4-0 win over … Saint Benedict … on March 13, 2021.
• 2: Bud Winter (St. Louis, Mo.) was in a giving mood on Saturday, as the sophomore assisted on both Saint Mary’s goals in the Cardinal men’s hockey team’s 3-2, overtime loss to Saint John’s.
• 3: Hunter Phillips (Minong, Wis.), Noah Frechette (Lakeville, Minn.) and Jabari Sawyer (Chicago, Ill.) all posted career-high scoring performances in the SMU men’s basketball team’s first two games last week. Phillips, who netted Saint Mary’s first eight points against Augustana last Tuesday, finished with a career-best 13 points, while Frechette and Sawyer delivered 14 and 11 points, respectively, in the Cardinals conference-opening 63-61 win over Macalester four days later.
• 3: Sidney Polzin (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) moved into a tie for the team lead with her third goal of the season in the Saint Mary’s women’s hockey team’s 4-1 loss to Saint Benedict last Saturday.
• 4: The Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team had four players record a career-high 10 or more points in its 80-74 win over Martin Luther last Monday. Jada Biermeier (Eau Claire, Wis.) led the charge with a career-best 19 points, one more than Ashley Streveler’s (Colby, Wis.) career-high 18. Valerie Higgins (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Alyssa Coleman (Matteson, Ill.) chipped in their best nights as Cardinals with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
• 4: The Saint Mary’s men’s hockey team’s four goals against Saint John’s last weekend came from four different players — Trevor Schroder (Des Moines, Iowa) and Kasyn Kruse (Luverne, Minn.) each scored their second goal of the season in the Cardinals’ 2-1 win last Thursday, while Sam Hanson (Eau Claire, Wis.) and Brady Lindauer (Cary, Ill.) netted SMU’s goals in the Cardinals’ 3-2 OT loss two days later.
• 4 > 10: The Cardinal men’s basketball team put four players in double figures in last Tuesday’s 79-73 overtime loss to Augustana. Kareem Anthony-Bello (Chicago, Ill.) scored a team-high 14 points, followed by Hunter Phillips (Minong, Wis.) with 13. Shawn Pickford (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Noah Frechette (Lakeville, Minn.) each chipped in 10 points.
• 10: Jada Biermeier (Eau Claire, Wis.) knocked down a season- and career-high 10 free throws on 12 attempts against Martin Luther on Monday. The 10 made free throws were the most by a Cardinal since Shayley Vesel went 10-for-13 from the charity stripe against Augsburg on Feb. 5, 2020.
• 11: Eleven of the 12 Cardinals who saw playing time in the SMU men’s basketball team’s overtime loss at Augustana last Tuesday scored at least two points.
• 11: The Cardinal women’s hockey team’s three goals against Saint Benedict last weekend all came from freshmen. Eleven of SMU’s 13 goals have come from players making their Cardinal debut this season.
• 14: Kareem Anthony-Bello’s (Chicago, Ill.) team-high 14 points in the Cardinal men’s basketball team’s overtime loss to Augustana all came after halftime. Anthony-Bello went 3-for-7 with a 3-pointer and added a 7-for-8 effort from the free throw line after the break.
• 22: Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) tossed in a team-high 22 points in the Cardinal women’s basketball team’s 63-58 win over Macalester last Saturday. The 22-point effort was a season-high, and marked the ninth time in her collegiate career that Paulson has scored 20 or more points in a game.
• 28, 35: The Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team’s 28 made free throws against Martin Luther last Monday were the most since netting 32 against Bethel on Feb. 27, 2014, while the Cardinals’ 35 free throws attempted were the most since attempting 35 vs. Macalester on Feb. 10, 2018.
• 35 = 1: Matt Sankner (Pennington, N.J.) picked up his first collegiate win in goal for the Saint Mary’s men’s hockey team’s 2-1 win over Saint John’s last Thursday, stopping a career-high 35 shots.
• 63: The Saint Mary’s men’s and women’s basketball teams both scored 63 points in their conference-opening wins over Macalester last Saturday. The men posted a 63-61 victory, while the women were 63-58 victors.
• 80: The Cardinal women’s basketball team’s 80-point effort in last Monday’s 80-74 win over Martin Luther was its top offensive performance since scoring 85 points an 87-85 overtime loss to Hamline on Jan. 11, 2020.
