WINONA, Minn. —
Eli Cave (St. Paul, Minn.) was nothing if not consistent during the Saint Mary's University men's basketball team's sweep of Bethel in its two games last week.
Â
The Cardinal senior scored 24 points in the Cardinals' 57-48 home win over the Royals last Wednesday, and followed that up with another 24-point performance in the teams' rematch — a 66-58 Saint Mary's victory — three days later.
Â
And Monday afternoon, Cave was recognized for his efforts, being named MIAC Athlete of the Week, the league office announced.
Â
Cave went 9-for-17 with a pair of 3-pointers and a perfect 4-for-4 effort from the free throw line in last Wednesday's victory, while adding five rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Â
In the sequel on Saturday, Cave equaled his offensive performance in eerily similar fashion, once again knocking down 9 of 17 field goal attempts, this time pouring in four 3-pointers and a 2-for-2 effort from the charity stripe en route to 24-point night No. 2.
Â
Cave, who has now scored in double figures in 32 straight games and in 56 of 57 games over the past three seasons — and has netted 20 or more points 28 times in his collegiate career — heads into Monday night's showdown at Augsburg averaging 22.4 ppg — ranking him second among conference scorers.
