  SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT
The Cardinals pushed their season-opening winning streak to four Tuesday, rallying from two goal deficits twice in beating Gustavus 5-4 in overtime. … The Cardinals are now 4-0 for the first time since 1972-73, when the Cardinals won their first 11 straight. Saint Mary's did win five straight to kick off the 2001-02 season, but two of those wins vs. Finlandia were considered exhibition games. … The Cardinals' last four-game winning streak came during the 2016-17 season — ironically it was also the last time Saint Mary's put together five consecutive wins. … Andrew Froese (Traverse City, Mich.) recorded his first collegiate hat trick — including scoring the game-winner in overtime — in Tuesday's 5-4 win over Gustavus. … Froese's hat trick was the first by a Cardinal since 2015-16, when Bob Kinne, Jared Johnson, and Jay Heinle all recorded three-goal games. … Bud Winter (St. Louis, Mo.) — who had a hand in all three Cardinal goals in SMU's 3-1 win over Concordia on Feb. 6 — and Tommy Stang (Mendota Heights, Minn.) netted Saint Mary's other two goals vs. Gustavus Tuesday. … Ryan Stoynich (Calgary, Alberta picked up single-game career-high three assists against Gustavus Tuesday. Stoynich's three points were also a single-game career-best. … With Froese's hat trick against Gustavus, the Cardinals have now had a multiple-goal scorer twice this season — Winter netted two goals against Concordia on Feb. 6. … Winter and Froese are two of three Cardinals to score their first collegiate goals this season, being joined by Trevor Schroeder (Des Moines, Iowa). … Froese enters Saturday's game against St. Thomas leading the team in goals with four, one more than Winter, while the freshman duo joins Stoynich atop the team points lead with six. … Stoynich, Schroder, and Brady Lindauer (Cary, Ill.) are all tied for the team lead in assists with three. … Froese, Winter, Sam Hanson (Eau Claire, Wis.), and Jack Hatton (Naperville, Ill.) own Saint Mary's four game-winning goals. … Al Rogers (North Haven, Conn.) has started four of the Cardinals' five games in goal, owning a 2.65 goals-against-average and .910 save percentage. … Rogers has stopped 30 or more shots five times in his collegiate career. … Connor Close (Des Moines, Iowa) stopped 33 Bethel shots in his first collegiate start in goal for the Cardinals on Feb. 2. … Nine of the Cardinals' 17 goals this season have been scored in the second period. SMU has netted just one first-period goal through three games. … Saint Mary's has scored the game's first goal in three of its four contests this season. … With their 5-4 overtime win over Gustavus, Saint Mary's has played 21 games decided by one goal or less — including 12 that have gone into overtime — over the last three seasons.
  ST. THOMAS TOMMIES SCOUTING REPORT
Saturday's game against Saint Mary's is the third game in as many nights for the Tommies, who beaten Gustavus 3-0 on Thursday and tied Saint John's 2-2 on Friday. UST is in the midst of playing 10 games in 17 days. … St. Thomas is unbeaten in its last eight games, dating back to a 3-2 loss to Hamline on Feb. 15, 2020. … Andrew Kangas and Kimball Johnson scored UST's two goals vs. Saint John's in Friday's 2-2 tie. … UST's game against Gustavus on Thursday was its first since Jan. 30 — a span of 25 days. … St. Thomas has outscored its opponents 10-3 through its first three games. … Joey Sofo and Spencer Zwiener share the team lead with two goals each, while Johnson, Kangas, Grant Loven, Johnson, Shayne Monahan, Jack Vincent, and Luke Manning have netted UST's othersix goals. … Loven and Sam Huff share the team lead in assists with three each, while Loven owns a team-leading four points. … Jake Berger stopped all 19 shots he faced in shutting out Gustavus on Thursday and enters Saturday's matchup against Saint Mary's boasting a 0.66 goal-against-average and a .972 save percentage. … Henry Baribeau finished with 33 saves against Saint John's Friday evening and boasts a 1.27 GAA and .952 save percentage in two appearances. … St. Thomas has scored first in two of its three games this season.
