• 1: Nash Wood (Buford, Ga.) netted his first collegiate goal in the Saint Mary’s men’s hockey team’s 4-3, overtime loss to St. Thomas last Tuesday. Saint Mary’s has now had a player score career goal No. 1 in each of the last three games — with each goal the Cardinals’ first of the game.
• 2 + 1 + 1 = 1: Anne Carmean (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) scored her first collegiate goal in the first period of the Cardinal women’s hockey team’s 4-0 win over Saint Benedict last Saturday. Carmean added her second goal — and an assist — over the final two periods for her first two-goal and multiple-point contest.
• 2: Saint Mary’s boasted a pair of MIAC Athletes of the Week last week. Bud Winter of the Cardinal men’s hockey team earned his second AOW of the season, while track and field’s Sydney Klausler landed her first AOW honor.
• 2: Gabe Graves (Littleton, Colo.) and Reilly Fredell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) posted doubles wins for the Saint Mary’s men’s tennis team against both Wartburg and St. Olaf last weekend.
• 2-0 + 1.00: Ryan Wolfe (Wabasha, Minn.) picked up his second win of the season in the Saint Mary’s baseball team’s 2-1 Game 1 win over Luther last Sunday. Wolfe tossed a complete-game four-hitter and boasts a microscopic 1.00 ERA in nine innings.
• 3: The Saint Mary’s women’s tennis team picked up its third win of the season last Saturday, rolling to a 9-0 nonconference win over Wartburg.
• 3: Trevor Smiley (Minnetonka, Minn.) picked up singles wins in both of the Saint Mary’s men’s tennis team’s matches last weekend — winning 6-2, 6-0 against Wartburg last Saturday and 6-2, 6-1 against St. Olaf the following day — to extend his winning streak to three straight.
• 3: The Saint Mary’s baseball team used three pitchers — who combined on a two-hitter — in its 4-2 Game 2 win over Luther last Sunday. Jonathan Cieminski (Fountain City, Wis.) allowed two runs on two hits, while walking three and striking out three in three innings of work, before giving way to Jacob Johnson (Hartland, Wis.). who tossed three innings of perfect relief, striking out three to pick up the win. Kodey Kiel (Owatonna, Minn.) closed the door in the seventh, working out of a first-and-second, no one out jam for his first save of the season.
• 3 x 2: Justin Weinberg (Eagan, Minn.) had three hits and Taylor Anderson (Waukesha, Wis.) drove in three runs in the Saint Mary’s baseball team’s season-opening 8-2 win over St. Scholastica last Monday.
• 3-0: The Saint Mary’s baseball team has opened the season with three straight wins — beating St. Scholastica last Tuesday and sweeping Luther last Sunday. The Cardinals are 3-0 for the second time in the last three years, having opened with four straight wins to begin the 2019 season.
• 3+ x 2: The Cardinal men’s hockey team’s 4-3 loss to St. Thomas last Tuesday was their second straight overtime game — SMU beat Bethel 6-5 in OT on March 6.
• 3 x 2 x 2: Amber Chow (West St. Paul, Minn.) and Marissa Kleckler (Oregon, Wis.) each had three hits and Justine Schultz (Winona, Minn.) and Lexi Brooks (Searcy, Ark.) both scored three times in the Cardinal fastpitch softball team’s 14-12 loss to St. Scholastica last Sunday.
• 3 x 3: Taylor Anderson (Waukesha, Wis.), Tyler O’Brien (Belle Plaine, Minn.), and Will Matthews (Geneva, Ill.) all recorded at least one hit in each of the Cardinal baseball team’s three games last week.
• 4: The Saint Mary’s women’s hockey team scored a season-high four goals in last Saturday’s 4-0 win over Saint Benedict. Anne Carmean (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) scored twice and Sydney Green (East Bethel, Minn.) and Sarah O’Brien (Littleton, Colo.) accounted for the other two goals.
• 4: After dropping her first match of the season against Bethel, Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.) has rattled off four consecutive singles victories for the Saint Mary’s women’s tennis team.
• 4, 5: Trevor Smiley (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Gabe Graves (Littleton, Colo.) are the only Cardinal men’s tennis players to have played all four matches at the same position — Smiley at No. 4 and Graves at No. 5.
• 5: The Saint Mary’s fastpitch softball team had five different players record multiple-hit games in the Cardinals nonconference doubleheader against St. Scholastica last Sunday. Amber Chow (West St. Paul, Minn.) and Marissa Kleckler (Oregon, Wis.) each had three-hit games, while Justine Schultz (Winona, Minn.), Lexi Brooks (Searcy, Ark.), and Lizzy Baird (Wells, Minn.) had two-hit performances.
• 5: Colleen Lois (Green Bay, Wis.) is the only Cardinal women’s tennis player to play all five matches this season at the same position, going 3-2 at No. 1 singles.
• 5: Erin Sullivan (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) is currently riding a team-best five-game hitting streak for the Saint Mary’s fastpitch softball team, while Sullivan, Justine Schultz (Winona, Minn.), and Amy Kulaga (Riverside, Ill.) have all reached base safely in each of the Cardinals’ last five games.
• 5: Sam Hanson (Eau Claire, Wis.) had a goal and an assist in the SMU men’s hockey team’s 4-3, overtime loss to St. Thomas last Tuesday. The sophomore has now recorded five points in the Cardinals’ last two games.
• 5: Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.) pushed her singles winning streak to a single-season career high-tying five with back-to-back wins against St. Catherine and Wartburg last weekend. Becker is sitting at 5-0 this season and boasts a 12-2 record in her short, two-year collegiate career.
• 12, 14: The Saint Mary’s fastpitch softball team’s 12 runs and 14 hits in its 14-12 Game loss to St. Scholastica last Sunday were both season-highs.
• 31: Ary Ziakas (Palatine, Ill.) stopped all 31 shots she faced in recording her second shutout of the season in the SMU women’s hockey team’s 4-0 win over Saint Benedict last Saturday.
• 35: Al Rogers (North Haven, Conn.) equaled his season-high with 35 saves against St. Thomas last Tuesday’s 4-3 overtime loss for the SMU men’s hockey team. It was the third time this season the senior has recorded 35 saves in a game — with all three coming against St. Thomas.
• 44: Ary Ziakas (Palatine, Ill.) recorded a season-high 44 saves in the Saint Mary’s women’s hockey team’s 3-0 loss to St. Thomas last Sunday. Ziakas’ 44-save effort vs. St. Thomas was just 10 saves shy of her career-best 54 saves in the Cardinals’ 3-3 tie with No. 5 Hamline on Feb. 8, 2020. The 54 saves were 10 more than her previous career best — and the most by a Cardinal goalie since Ashley Corcoran stopped 56 Gustavus shots on Feb. 3, 2017.
• 67: With their 6-3 win over Wartburg last Saturday, the Cardinal men’s tennis team improved to 67-24 in nonconference matches since 2012.
.714 + 556: Will Matthews (Geneva, Ill.) and Taylor Anderson (Waukesha, Wis.) were the SMU baseball team’s offensive leaders last week, hitting .714 and .556, respectively.
