WINONA, Minn. — With three matches in three days, the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota could not have found a better way to kick off their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tripleheader.
Saint Mary's won two of the three doubles matches and turned a nail-biter into a rout by sweeping all six singles matches — including five by straight sets — in cruising to an 8-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over Hamline Friday at the Winona Tennis Center.
Colleen Lois and
Natalie Peterson (St. Cloud, Minn.) rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles and
Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.) and Maddie Dossier (South St. Paul, Minn.) added an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead after the evening's three doubles matches.
And as good as the Cardinals were in doubles, they were even better in singles.
Lois,
Kennedy Morgan (Green Bay, Wis.),
Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.),
Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.) and Henderson all delivered straight-set singles wins — including identical 6-1, 6-2 wins by Lois Morgan, and Becker at Nos. 1-3 — while
Maddie Dosser (South St. Paul, Minn.) completed the singles sweep with a 7-5, 2-6, 10-5 win at No. 6.
The Cardinals (1-2 MIAC, 4-2 overall) are right back in action — and right b ack oin tgeh courts at the Winona Tennis Center — on Saturday, hosting St. Olaf in a 12:30 p.m. MIAC matchup.
