Smiley dropped the first set of his No. 4 singles match 6-2, but rallied for a 7-6 (2) win in the second set and outlasted UST’s Tristan Fjestad 10-8 in the third for the marathon win.

• 7: The Cardinal men’s hockey team’s 3-2 loss to St. Olaf last Tuesday marked the seventh time in SMU’s 11 games this season that the outcome was decided by one goal — including three that went into overtime.

The 10 runs marked the second time in eight games in which the Cardinals have scored 10 or more runs — SMU plated a season-high 12 runs in falling to St. Scholastica 14-12 on March 14.
• 12: Bud Winter (St. Louis, Mo.) and Ryan Stoynich (Calgary, Alberta) closed out the year as the Cardinal men’s hockey team’s offensive leaders with 12 points each. Winter also led the team with six goals, while Stoynich owned a team-best nine assists.
• 13: Pitchers Jordan Zabel (Elgin, Minn.) and Addison Hochevar (Lake Geneva, Wis.) combined for 13 strikeouts in the Cardinal baseball team’s nonconference split against Augsburg last Tuesday. Hochevar struck out eight in four innings in getting the win in Game 1, while Zabel fanned five in 4.2 innings in a no-decision in the nightcap.
