The Cardinals enter Sunday's matchup against Augsburg on the heels of a season-opening, 3-0 loss to St. Thomas on Thursday. The last time the Cardinals and Auggies met, Saint Mary's beat Augsburg 4-3 in overtime on Sept. 28 and Bethel 2-1 on Oct. 12.   AUGSBURG AUGGIES SCOUTING REPORT
After exhibition games against St. Thomas, St. Olaf, Gustavus, and Macalester, Sunday's home matchup against Saint Mary's is the official season-opener for the Auggies, who are coming off a 9-6-3 season in 2019, including a 4-5-1 mark in conference play. … The Auggies closed out 2019 3-1-1 in their last five games — including back-to-back 2-1 victories over Concordia and Hamline to end the season. … Lionel Van ended 2019 as the team's offensive leader in all three categories — goals (10), assists (7), and points (27). … Daniel Hendstrom was second to Vang with four goals, while Nick Zuchowski was No. 2 in assists with four. … Hedstrom and Zuchowski also closed out 2019 in double figures in points with 10 each. … Vang and Hendstrom shared the team lead with three game-winning goals each, while Zuchowski, Lalo Gomez, and Antonio Magadan netted the Auggies' other three game-winners. … Augsburg used three different goalkeepers in 2019, led by Garrett Kaelin, who compiled a 1.27 goals-against-average and .791 save percentage in 15 appearances.
