  SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT
The Cardinals enter Sunday's matchup against Augsburg on the heels of a season-opening, 3-0 loss to St. Thomas on Thursday. The last time the Cardinals and Auggies met, Saint Mary's beat Augsburg 4-3 in overtime on Sept. 28 and Bethel 2-1 on Oct. 12. The Cardinals' four goals in their 4-3 victory over Augsburg on Sept. 28 were the most in a one-goal win since beating Cal State-East Bay 4-3 on Oct. 28, 2005. … St. Thomas scored two goals in the first half — the first on a PK and the second with 12 seconds remaining — and added an insurance goal in the second half Thursday's 3-0 win over the Cardinals. … Daniel Sessler (Brookfield, Ill.) made his first collegiate start in goal for the Cardinals against St. Thomas Thursday, stopping seven UST shots, including five in the first half. … Eli Szymanski (La Crosse, Wis.) accounted for all four Cardinal shot attempts against the Tommies Thursday, including a second-half free kick attempt that clanked off the crossbar. … Szymanski closed out the 2019 season sharing the team lead with a single-season career-high 10 goals. … Szymanski recorded his first two collegiate multiple-goal games in 2019 — including his first career hat trick against Hamline on Oct 26, 2019. … Saint Mary's has played two exhibition games this season, battling both St. Scholastica and St. Olaf to 1-1 draws. … The Cardinals are coming off an 8-10-0 showing in 2019. … Saint Mary's eight wins in 2019 were the most in a season since finishing 8-9-1 in 2017.   AUGSBURG AUGGIES SCOUTING REPORT
After exhibition games against St. Thomas, St. Olaf, Gustavus, and Macalester, Sunday's home matchup against Saint Mary's is the official season-opener for the Auggies, who are coming off a 9-6-3 season in 2019, including a 4-5-1 mark in conference play. … The Auggies closed out 2019 3-1-1 in their last five games — including back-to-back 2-1 victories over Concordia and Hamline to end the season. … Lionel Van ended 2019 as the team's offensive leader in all three categories — goals (10), assists (7), and points (27). … Daniel Hendstrom was second to Vang with four goals, while Nick Zuchowski was No. 2 in assists with four. … Hedstrom and Zuchowski also closed out 2019 in double figures in points with 10 each. … Vang and Hendstrom shared the team lead with three game-winning goals each, while Zuchowski, Lalo Gomez, and Antonio Magadan netted the Auggies' other three game-winners. … Augsburg used three different goalkeepers in 2019, led by Garrett Kaelin, who compiled a 1.27 goals-against-average and .791 save percentage in 15 appearances. Zachary Berg (1.49 GAA, .667 save %, 6 GP) and Ethan Derks (0.00 GAA, .000 save %, 1 GP) also saw time between the pipes for the Auggies in 2019. … Augsburg closed out 2019 have played five overtime games — going 0-2-3. Augsburg lost to St. Thomas and Saint Mary's in back-to-back overtime games three days apart in late September, while tying Puget Sound, Nebraska Wesleyan, and Bethel.
