WINONA, Minn. — Saint Mary's University's
Gabe Graves (Littleton, Colo.) made sure his final collegiate home tennis match was a memorable one Sunday, as the Cardinals' lone senior picked up wins in both singles in doubles in helping SMU to a 9-0 sweep of Concordia at the Winona Tennis Center.
Â
"It was a great way to close out our home schedule," said Saint Mary's men's tennis coach
Jeff Halberg. "The guys put together an incredible effort and really dominated from start-to-finish."
Â
Graves and
Reilly Fredell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) were near-perfect in doubles play, cruising to an 8-1 win at No. 3.
Brandon Kurilla (Hastings, Minn.)/
Trevor Smiley (Minnetonka, Minn.) added an 8-2 win at No. 1, and
Evan Huemoeller (Owatonna, Minn.)/
Josh Janssen (Green Bay, Wis.) were 8-4 winners at No. 2.
Â
Smiley, Huemoeller, Graves, and Fredell added straight-set singles wins — including a 6-0, 6-0 win by Fredell at No. 6 — while Kurilla had to rally from a set down for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-3 win at No. 1, and Janssen overcame a second-set tie-break loss to post a 6-3, 6-7, 10-7 win at No. 4.
