SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT |
• BACK ON TRACK: The Cardinals got back on the winning track on Wednesday, dominating the third and fourth sets in posting a 3-1 win over UW-Stout to put an end to their three-match losing streak.
• ROAD WARRIORS: Wednesday's match at UW-Stout was the fifth of 16 straight road matches for the Cardinals, who do not play their first home contest until Oct. 1, when they host St. Scholastica in a 7 p.m. contest at the SMU Gym.
• FOURS ARE WILD: Three of Saint Mary's five matches this season have been decided in four sets. Saint Mary's beat UW-Stout 3-1, while falling to Edgewood and Milwaukee School of Engineering by the same 3-1 count.
• CAREER PERFORMANCES: Ciarra McNally (Lewiston, Minn.) — who posted then-career-high 20-kill performances twice last weekend — notching a new career-high with 25 kills against UW-Stout on Wednesday.
• ON THE ATTACK: McNally has now recorded at least 10 kills in all five matches this season — including three matches of 20 of more kills — and enters this weekend's contests with a team-best 93 kills, while hitting .268. Braidyn Ruetten (Holmen, Wis.) is second on the team in kills with 34, followed by Elise Amerongen (Lake Elmo, Minn.) with 22.
• DOUBLE-DOUBLES: McNally and Mandy Schmidt (Mitchell, S.D.) each recorded their first double-doubles of the season last weekend. McNally delivered a 20-kill, 10-dig performance against Edgewood last Friday, while Schmidt posted a 13-assist, 10-dig showing against Wartburg the following day.
• GIVING AN ASSIST: Schmidt and Larkin Clem (Elk River, Minn.) have shared the setting duties this season. Schmidt owns a team-leading 113 helpers, while Clem has tallied 68. … With her 22 assists vs. UW-Stout on Wednesday, Schmidt has delivered 20 or more assists in four of the team's five matches — including a season-high 31 against Edgewood last Friday.
• DIGGING IT: DeJaye Baab (Wabasha, Minn.) has led the team in digs in all five matches this season, including a season-high 25-dig effort in SMU's season-opening 3-1 win over Luther. With her 81 digs through five matches, Baab pushed her career total to 1,229, leaving her just 10 digs shy of Anna Thibault for ninth all-time.
• SERVING UP ACES: Clem pushed her team-leading service ace total to 12 with three aces against UW-Stout Wednesday. Schmidt is second on the team in aces with 11, three in front of McNally.
• QUICK STARTERS: The Cardinals have won the opening set in three of their five matches this season — going 2-1 in those three contests. |
BELOIT BUCCANEERS SCOUTING REPORT |
• COMING IN HOT: The Buccaneers enter this weekend's UW-Stevens Point Invitational having opened the season 3-1, having beaten Rockford and Alverno (twice), while falling to Saint Mary's College (Ind.).
• GOING THE DISTANCE: Three of Beloit's four matches have been extended to a fifth and final set. The Buccaneers beat Rockford and Alverno 3-2, before losing 3-2 to Saint Mary's College (Ind.).
• ONE-TWO-PUNCH: Isabel Conchillo Martinez and Regina Guehlstorf pace the Buccaneers' offense, recording 54 and 53 kills, respectively. Guehlstorf owns an impressive .341 attack percentage, recording just 11 errors on 124 swings.
• DOING THEIR PART: Katrina Sanchez (32), Cora Linos (26), and Jada Daniel (23) have also made their presence felt on the offensive end, each posting more than 20 kills through four matches.
• ASSISTING THE CAUSE: Abbie Schmidt and Linos have shared the setting duties for the Buccaneers, with Schmidt owning a team-best 88 helpers and Lino chipping in 67. Schmidt has recorded 20 or more assists in three of Beloit's four matches, including back-to-back season-high 24-save efforts against Saint Mary's and Alverno.
• SERVING UP ACES: The Buccaneers have collected 36 services aces in four matches, led by Sanches with seven, Schmidt with six, and Mickayla Simao with five.
• DIGGING IN: Sanchez has amassed a team-leading 93 digs, followed by Jade Mosquera with 50, and Linos with 40. Sanchez has posted three matches of 20 or more digs, including a season-best 35-dig performance in Beloit's five-set loss to Saint Mary's College (Ind.) last Saturday.
• AS A TEAM: The Buccaneers own 204 kills and are hitting .201 through four matches, while also racking up 190 assists, 36 aces, 324 digs, and 22 blocks. |
MARIAN SABRES SCOUTING REPORT |
• ROUGH START: The Sabres enter this weekend's tournament on the heels of a 1-3 showing at the season-opening Forester Invitational in Lake Forest, Ill. Marian dropped its first two matches of the weekend, falling to No. 5 Carthage and host Lake Forest, before closing out the two-day tournament with a win over Mount Mary and a loss to Loras.
• GOING THE DISTANCE: Two of Marian's three losses last weekend went the maximum five sets. The Sabres fell 3-2 to both Lake Forest and Loras, while being swept by Carthage 3-0 and beating Mount Mary in four sets.
• HITTING THE ROAD: Marian played its first 12 matches on the road this season. The Sabres do not play at home until Sept. 21, when they host Edgewood in a 7 p.m. matchup.
• ON THE ATTACK: Caelan Tourdot owns the team lead with 49 kills, while Andrea Miller (27), Reagan Jasica (25), and Seina Pehowski (23) have all posted more than 20 kills through four matches.
• RUNNING THE SHOW: Anna Tapia has dished out 113 of the team's 138 assists this season. After putting together back-to-back 15-assist performances in the Sabres' first two matches, Tapia racked up 37 helpers against Mount Mary and a season-high 46 against Loras.
• ACES ARE WILD: Pehowski and Tapia lead the Sabres in aces, serving up seven and six aces, respectively.
• CAN YOU DIG IT: Marian boasts five players with 20 or more digs through four matches, led by Brooklyn Taylor with 79 and Jasica with 53. Andrea Miller (41), Tapia (32), and Reagan Brown (26) have also recorded more than 20 digs this season.
• AS A TEAM: As a team, the Sabres have amassed 164 kills, but are hitting just .109. Marian owns 139 assists, 25 service aces and 262 digs. |
STEVENS POINT POINTERS SCOUTING REPORT |
• COMING IN HOT: The Pointers enter their home tournament this weekend on the heels of back-to-back wins over Lakeland and St. Norbert on Wednesday. UW-Stevens Point rolled to a 3-0 win over Lakeland and added a 3-1 victory against St. Norbert in the WIAC/MWC Quadrangular.
• HOME COOKING: This weekend's matches will be the home opener for the Pointers, who have played four of their first six matches at neutral sites. UW-SP is 1-1 on the road, while going 3-1 in neutral-site contests.
• SWEEPING UP: With their 3-0 win over Lakeland Wednesday, UW-Stevens Point has now posted three of its four wins via 3-0 sweeps. On the flip side, both of the Pointers' losses this season — to Bethel and Northwestern — have also been decided in three sets.
• MAKING AN IMPACT: Freshman Ashley Kopp collected her third double-double in six matches against St. Norbert Wednesday, recording 17 kills and adding 18 digs. Kopp narrowly missed yet another double-double with 16 kills and eight digs against Lakeland earlier in the evening.
• ON THE ATTACK: Kopp enters the weekend leading the Pointers' offense with 70 kills, while hitting .225. Kopp is one of three Pointers with 40 or more kills through six matches, being joined by Megan Lau (50) and Guresi Mena (48). … Kopp's 17 kills against St. Norbert Wednesday were a single-match season-high.
• LENDING A HAND: Bekah Day racked up a combined 71 assists against Lakeland and St. Norbert Wednesday. Day, who owns four matches with 30 or more assists — including a season-high 38 against Lakeland — has accounted for 184 of the team's 220 assists through six matches.
• SERVING UP ACES: Along with her team-leading 70 kills, Kopp also leads the team in service aces with 10, one more than Day and four in front of Kelsie Belfiori.
• DIGGING IT: The Pointers boast four players with 50 or more digs this season, led by Emma Peterson with 86. Katie Albrecht (65), Kopp (65) and Belfiori (55) are the other three. Fifteen of the 18 Pointers who have seen playing time this season have recorded at least one dig.
• AS A TEAM: The Pointers have amassed 240 kills, 220 assists, 36 aces, 351 digs and 29 blocks through six matches.
