SMU CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT

• SOLID START: After a 656-day layoff, the Cardinals finally got to toe the starting line again on Sept. 3, taking part in the Augustana (S.D.) Twilight. Amanda Tuvey (West St. Paul, Minn.) led the way for the SMU women, while Quinn Steinbrecher (Holmen, Wis.) paced the Cardinal men's charge.
• COLLEGIATE DEBUT: The Augustana Twilight was the collegiate debut for all three of the Cardinal men's runners — Gabe Bickerstaff (Rollingstone, Minn.), Isaiah Brindamour (Hinckley, Minn.), and Quinn Steinbrecher (Holmen, Wis.) — as well as women runners Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.), Emily Kern (Buffalo, Minn.), Audrey Storlie (Hinckley, Minn.), and Amanda Tuvey (West St. Paul, Minn.).
• LEADING THE CHARGE: Tuvey toured the five-kilometer women's course at the Augustana Invitational in a time of 22:12 to pace the Cardinal women, while Steinbrecher stopped the clock in 22:45 in the men's four-mile race to claim top honors for the SMU men.
• CLOSE BEHIND. Tuvey's time of 22:12 was just enough to edge out Cardinal teammates Anna Swanson (Osceola, Wis.) and Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.) for the team's top time. Swanson stopped the clock in 22:15, followed closely by Gearin in 22:19, while Emma Ririe (Darien, Ill. / 22:54) and Rachel Simon (Foley, Minn. / 26:52) rounded out the women's lineup.
• ROUNDING OUT THE LINEUP: Isaiah Brindamour (Hinckley, Minn.) and Gabe Bickerstaff (Rollingstone, Minn.) rounded out the SMU men's runners, posting times of 23:56 and 24:06, respectively.
• MAKING A STATEMENT: Swanson earned All-American honors in the javelin at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, placing second — the highest finish by an SMU track and field athlete ever.
