• 3: With last Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Saint John’s, the Cardinal men’s soccer team has now gone into overtime against the Johnnies in each of their last three meetings. Saint Mary’s beat (2-1) and tied (0-0) SJU in their two meetings last season.
• 3 v 1: Saint Mary’s men’s and women’s soccer teams and the Cardinal volleyball team all opened MIAC play on the road last week, with all three conference-openers coming against Carleton. The women’s soccer team edged the Knights 1-0 last Tuesday, while the men’s team dropped a 2-1 decision and the volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 win on Wednesday.
• 4: Eli Szymanski (La Crosse, Wis.) scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season — converting on a first-half penalty kick — in the Cardinal men’s soccer team’s 2-1, conference-opening loss to Carleton last Wednesday. It was Szymanski’s third PK goal of the season and seventh of his collegiate career.
• 6: Haddy Falkman (Waconia, Minn.) scored the game’s only goal in the first half in leading the Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over Carleton in the teams’ MIAC opener last Wednesday. The goal was her team-leading sixth of the season. The junior has netted at least one goal in five of the team’s six games.
• 6 + 4 = 4: : Alexis Nguyen (West Corvina, Calif.) recorded her third shutout of the season in the Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team’s 1-0 win against Carleton last Wednesday, stopping a career-high six shots in the process. The junior followed that up with a four-save effort against Saint Benedict three days later for shutout No. 4.
• 7: Daniel Sessler (Brookfield, Ill.) equaled his career high with seven saves in the SMU men’s soccer team’s 2-1 loss to Carleton last Wednesday. It was the second time this season, and third time in his two-year collegiate career, that the sophomore goalkeeper has made seven saves in a game.
• 7: The Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team extended its season-opening unbeaten streak to seven with a 0-0, double-overtime tie against Saint Benedict last Saturday.
• 13: Elise Amerongen (Lake Elmo, Minn.) recorded a career-high 13 kills in leading the Cardinal volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Westminster (Mo.) in the team’s first-ever meeting last Friday.
• 13: The Saint Mary’s volleyball team won 13 of the last 15 points for a 15-6 victory in the fifth set en route to a 3-2 conference-opening win over Carleton last Wednesday.
• 15: Braidyn Ruetten (Holmen, Wis.) recorded her best night as a Cardinal in the SMU volleyball team’s 3-2 win over Carleton last Wednesday, delivering 15 kills.
• 26:16: Anna Swanson (Osceola, Wis.) turned in a team-best 26:16 six-kilometer effort to pace the SMU women’s cross country team at last Saturday’s St. Olaf Invitational. Swanson’s time was the second fastest 6K time of her collegiate career.
• 28:10: Quinn Steinbrecher (Holmen, Wis.) clocked a time of career-best eight-kilometer time of 28:10 to lead the way for the Cardinal men at last Saturday’s St. Olaf Invitational.
• 30 + 10: Larkin Clem (Elk River, Minn.) posted career-highs in both assists (30) and digs (10) en route to her first collegiate double-double in the Saint Mary’s volleyball team’s 3-2 win over Carleton last Wednesday.
• 32: Ciarra McNally (Lewiston, Minn.) delivered a career- and program-record 32 kills in the Cardinal volleyball team’s 3-2 win over Carleton last Wednesday. The 32 kills broke the previous mark of 31, set by Brandi Blattner on Oct. 21, 2016.
• 32-30: The Cardinal volleyball team played their longest set of the season last Friday, earning a 32-30 Set 2 win over Westminster en route to a 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays.
• 36: Ciarra McNally (Lewiston, Minn.) finished with a team-high 36 kills in the Saint Mary’s volleyball team’s three matches in Dubuque, Iowa, last weekend, six kills more than Faith Van Erp (Sartell, Minn.).
• 88: Mandy Schmidt (Mitchell, S.D.) racked up 88 assists in the Cardinal volleyball team’s three matches at the Dubuque/Loras Invitational last weekend — including 36 against Westminster (Mo.) last Friday and a season-high 37 vs. Loras the following morning.
