  SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT
• UP-AND-DOWN: The Cardinals had an up-and-down weekend to open the 2021 season, picking up a season-opening 3-1 win over Luther, before dropping matches to Edgewood, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and Wartburg.
• ROAD WARRIORS: Wednesday's match against UW-Stout is the fifth of 16 straight road matches for the Cardinals, who do not play their first home contest until Oct. 1, when they host St. Scholastica in a 7 p.m. contest at the SMU Gym.
• FOURS ARE WILD: Three of Saint Mary's four matches last weekend were decided in four sets. SMU beat Luther 3-1, while dropping 3-1 decisions to both Edgewood and MSOE.
• CAREER PERFORMANCES: Ciarra McNally (Lewiston, Minn.) posted a career-high 20 kills twice last weekend, while also recording a single-match career-best 10 digs.
• ON THE ATTACK: McNally recorded at least 10 or more kills in all four matches last weekend and heads into Wednesday's match against UW-Stout with a team-best 68 kills and is hitting .249. Braidyn Ruetten () is second in kills with 26, followed by Elise Amerongen (Lake Elmo, Minn.) with 20.
• DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Ciarra McNally (Lewiston, Minn.) and Mandy Schmidt (Mitchell, S.D.) each recorded their first double-doubles of the season last weekend. McNally delivered a 20-kill, 10-dig performance against Edgewood last Friday, while Schmidt posted a 13-assist, 10-dig showing against Wartburg the following day.
• GIVING AN ASSIST: Schmidt and Larkin Clem (Elk River, Minn.) shared the setting duties last weekend, with Schmidt recording 91 helpers, while Clem tallied 53.
• DIGGING IN: DeJaye Baab (Wabasha, Minn.) led the team in digs in all four of the Cardinals' matches last weekend, including a season-high 25-dig effort in SMU's season-opening 3-1 win over Luther. With her 71 digs through four matches, Baab pushed her career total to 1,219, leaving her just 20 digs shy of Anna Thibault for ninth all-time.
• A PAIR OF ACES: Schmidt and Clem head into Wednesday's match against UW-Stout as the team-leaders in service aces. Schmidt owns a team-best 10 aces through four matches, one more than Clem.
 UW-STOUT BLUE DEVILS SCOUTING REPORT
• OFF AND RUNNING: The Blue Devils are off to a fast start this season, picking up wins in four of their first five matches. After opening with a 3-1 win over Hamline on Sept. 1, UW-Stout recorded wins in three of their four matches at the Central/Grinnell Invitational, falling to Elmhurst in three sets, before rattling off wins over Grinnell, University of Dubuque, and Central-Iowa.
• HOME COOKING: Wednesday's game against Saint Mary's is the second home contest of the season for UW-Stout, which beat Hamline 3-1 in its home opener on Sept. 1. The Blue Devils, who did not have a season in 2020 due to COVID, played just five hoe contests in 2019, going 1-4.
• ON THE ATTACK: Sidney Hoverman has amassed a team-leading 65 kills through five matches. She is one of four Blue Devils with 30 or more kills this season — Jessica Barr (35), Lexie Nelson (31), and Anna Hansen (30) are the others. … Nelson is hitting a team-leading .312, followed closely by Barr (.271) and Hoverman (.236).
• SETTING 'EM UP: Nelson has accounted for 134 of the Blue Devils' 167 assists through five matches. Nelson has recorded 20 or more assists in four of the team's five matches, including 30 assists against Hamline and 31 vs. Central-Iowa.
• DOUBLING UP: Nelson owns the Blue Devils' lone double-double this season, compiling 12 kills and 28 assists against the University of Dubuque last Saturday.
• ACING IT: UW-Stout has recorded 33 service aces, led by Morgan Gyper with seven, Nelson with six, and Barr, Elise Banitt, and Caroline Braun with five each.
• CAN YOU DIG IT: Terrah Moshier leads the team with 57 digs, with Nelson and Banitt right on her heels with 46 and 40 digs, respectively.
• BLOCKED: Barr and Nelson are the team-leaders in blocks, with Barr atop the heap with 11, one more than Barr. As a team, the Blue Devils own 26 blocks through five matches.
• AS A TEAM: The Blue Devils — coming off a 19-11 showing in 2019 — head into Wednesday's matchup against Saint Mary's owning 211 kills, while hitting .204. UW-Stout is averaging 9.8 assists-per-set, 1.9 aces-per-set, and 14.3 digs-per-set.
