• 2: As a team, the Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team attempted 13 free throws in last Wednesday’s 69-58 win over Hamline, with just two players — Jabari Sawyer (Chicago, Ill.) and Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) — accounting for all 13. Sawyer finished 10-for-10, while Anthony was 0-for-3.
• 2-0 x 4: Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.), Maggie Frye (Colorado Springs, Colo), Kennedy Morgan (Green Bay, Wis.), and Natalie Peterson (St. Cloud, Minn.) all picked up singles win in both of the SMU women’s tennis team’s wins last weekend.
• 2, 4: The Cardinal track and field teams recorded two first-place finishes and added four second-place showings at last Friday’s St. Olaf Quadrangular.
• 2 x 1: Jabari Sawyer (Chicago, Ill.) and Breyton Buysman (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) both recorded single-game career-high performances in the SMU men’s basketball team’s 69-58 win over Hamline last Wednesday. Sawyer poured in a team-best 18 points — all in the second half — while Buysman netted 10 of his career-best 16 points after halftime.
• 2 x 2: E.J. Hietala (Duluth, Minn.) and Josh Janssen (Green Bay, Wis.) picked up singles wins against both Northwestern and Martin Luther for the Saint Mary’s men’s tennis team last weekend.
• 4: With their 1-1 deadlock against No. 6 Gustavus last Friday, the Saint Mary’s women’s hockey team has now played the Gusties to a draw at least once in each of the last four seasons.
• 5 = 15: Owen Ziegler (Mount Horeb, Minn.) knocked down five 3-pointers and matched his career-high with 15 points in helping the SMU men’s basketball team to a 77-58 win over St. Scholastica last Saturday. Ziegler has drained five 3-pointers in a game twice this season, also drilling five treys against Hamline on Nov. 23.
• 8: With their two 9-0 victories last weekend against Northwestern and Martin Luther, eight of the SMU women’s tennis team’s last nine wins have come on their home courts at the Winona Tennis Center.
• 9-0 x 2: The Saint Mary’s women’s tennis team kicked off the 2022 season in perfect fashion last weekend, posting back-to-back 9-0 victories over both Northwestern and Martin Luther.
• 10: The Cardinal women’s tennis team dropped just 10 games in its 9-0 win over Martin Luther last Saturday — including back-to-back-to-back 8-0 victories in the three doubles matches.
• 10-10: Jabari Sawyer (Chicago, Ill.) was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line en route to his career-high 18-point showing for the Cardinal men’s basketball team in last Wednesday’s 69-58 win over Hamline. Sawyer’s 10-for-10 showing was the Cardinals first since Michael Burfeind hit 10 of 10 from the charity stripe on Jan. 12, 2013.
• 10-13: Izzy Goettelman (Winona, Minn.) went 10-for-13 from the free throw line en route to her career-high 22-point afternoon in the SMU women’s basketball team’s 72-68 win over St. Scholastica last Saturday.
• 10 + 11 = 1: Jada Biermeier (Eau Claire, Wis.) recorded her first collegiate double-double in the SMU women’s basketball team’s 72-68 win over St. Scholastica last Saturday. The 11 rebounds equaled Biermeier’s career high.
• 11: The Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team poured in 11 3-pointers — one shy of its season-high — in last Saturday’s 77-58 win over St. Scholastica.
• 14.21: Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.)collected one of the SMU track and field teams’ two first-place finishes at last Friday’s St. Olaf Quadrangular, delivering a winning throw of 14.21 meters in the weight throw.
• 15 + 12 = 3: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) picked up his third double-double of the season in the SMU men’s basketball team’s 69-58 conference win over Hamline last Wednesday, scoring 15 points and adding 12 rebounds.
• 18: Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) scored a team-high 18 points in the Cardinal women’s basketball team’s 67-52 loss to Hamline last Wednesday.
• 22: Izzy Goettelman (Winona, Minn.) scored a career-high 22 points in leading the Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team’s 72-68 win over St. Scholastica last Saturday. The 22-point effort was nine points more than her previous career-best.
• 24: Noah Frechette (Lakeville, Minn.) scored a career-high 24 points in leading the Cardinal men’s basketball team to a 77-58 win over St. Scholastica last Saturday. The 24-point showing was six points more than his previous career best.
• 36-1: With their wins over Martin Luther last Saturday, the Saint Mary’s tennis teams extended lengthy winning streaks against the Knights. The Cardinal men are 19-0 against MLC, while the SMU women have won their last 16 meetings and are 17-1 all-time
• 52.70: Garrett Jackson (West Linn, Ore.) stopped the clock in 52.70 to win the 400 for the Saint Mary’s men’s track and field team at last Friday’s St. Olaf Quadrangular.
• 55, 34: Ary Ziakas (Palatine, Ill.) recorded a career-high 55 saves in the Cardinal women’s hockey team’s 1-1, overtime tie against No. 6 Gustavus last Friday. The 55 saves were the most by a Cardinal goalie since Ashley Corcoran kicked out 56 shots against the Gusties on Feb. 3, 2017. Ziakas followed up that career-best performance with 34 saves in SMU’s 5-0 loss to GAC in the rematch, giving the senior 89 saves on the weekend.
