SAINT MARY’S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR RECORD: The Cardinals head into their nonconference rematch against Lawrence Saturday sitting at 2-9-0 overall record, including a 1-4-0 mark in conference play.
• LAST TIME OUT: The Cardinals scored single goals in all three periods — and held a 59-15 advantage in shots on goal — as SMU rolled to a 3-0 nonconference win over Lawrence Friday evening at the Appleton Ice Center.
• ROAD WARRIORS: Saturday’s game against Lawrence is the eighth road game of the season for the Cardinals, who play just two of their first eight games on their home ice.
• TOUGH STRETCH: The Cardinals’ matchup against No. 1-ranked Gustavus last weekend marked the ninth and 10th straight games against teams appearing the USCHO.com Poll. Lake Forest, Hamline, and Augsburg have all received votes in the USCHO.com Top 15, while SMU has also faced then-No. 5 UW-Eau Claire (now ranked No. 9) and then-No. 7 UW-River Falls (currently ranked No. 2).
• LIGHTING THE LAMP: Taryn Dornself (Somerset, Wis.) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season against Lawrence Friday evening, while Anna Braun (Mantorville, Minn.) and Sydney Green (East Bethel, Minn.) accounted for SMU’s other two goals. … Dornself’s four goals are two more than Braun and Kas Kingston (Black Diamond, Alberta). Green, Teagan Phillips (Oregon, Wis.), Taverie Sherner (Maple Grove, Minn.), Kennedy Kraus (Kasson, Minn.), Allie Urlaub (Burnsville, Minn.), Sidney Polzin (Chippewa Falls, Wis.), Leah Parker (Hudson, Wis.), and Katie Pierpont (Holt, Mich.) own Saint Mary’s other eight goals this season
• FIRST AS A CARDINAL: Saint Mary’s has had four players score their first collegiate goals this season. Phillips and Sherner netted goal No. 1 as a Cardinal against Augsburg on Nov. 18, while Dornself’s first-period goal against Lake Forest on Oct. 29 was her first as a Cardinal, and Parker netted career goal No. 1 against Hamline on Nov. 12. … Saint Mary’s had 10 players net their first collegiate goals a year ago.
• LENDING A HAND: Urlaub and Anne Carmean (Spring Lake Park, Ill.) share the team lead in assists with three each, while Green, Kraus, Pierpont, Polzin, Ella Ausman (Chippewa Falls, Wis.), and Ellie Hegdahl (Brookings, S.D.), and Anne Carmean (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) are all sitting with two helpers each.
• POINT PRODUCERS: Dornself leads the team with five points, one more than Urlaub, through 11 games.
• SPREADING THE WEALTH: Saint Mary’s 10 points in its 4-2 win over Augsburg on Nov. 18 came from 10 different players: Phillips, Sherner, Urlaub, and Polzin scored goals, while Kraus, Ausman, Hegdahl, Dornself, Pierpont, and Parker all had assists.
• BETWEEN THE PIPES: Jordan Keeley (St. James, Minn.) and Celeste Rimstad (Richfield, Minn.) have shared the goaltending duties for the Cardinals this season. Keeley has stopped 263 of the 284 shots she’s faced in eight starts and owns a 2.78 goals-against-average and .926 save percentage, while Rimstad has recorded 95 saves in her first four appearances as a Cardinal and sports a 2.69 GAA and .905 save %. … Keeley has stopped 30 or more shots in six of her eight starts this season. … Rimstad’s 18-save effort against Lake Forest on Oct. 29 marked the first collegiate start for the freshman, while her 40-save showing vs. Hamline last Saturday was a career-high.
• THROWING UP BLANKS: Keeley kicked out all 15 shots she faced against Lawrence Friday night for her first shutout of the season, and fourth of her collegiate career.
• CAREER EFFORT: Keeley stopped a career-high 49 shots in SMU’s 3-2 loss to Augsburg on Nov. 19. The 49 saves were four more than her previous career-best and the most by a Cardinal goalie since Ary Ziakas stopped 55 against Gustavus on Jan. 28, 2022.
• TOTAL DOMINATION: Saint Mary’s 59 shots on goal against Lawrence Friday evening were the eighth-most in program history. SMU posted a program-record 80 shots on goal against St. Olaf on Nov. 11, 2000.
• WORKING OVERTIME: SMU’s 3-2 loss to Lake Forest on Oct. 29 was the Cardinals’ first overtime game of the season. Saint Mary’s played four overtime games a year ago, finishing 1-1-2 in those four contests.
• FIRST-GOAL ADVANTAGE: The team that has scored first has won 30 of the Cardinals’ last 34 games. Two of those four exceptions came on Oct. 28-29, when Saint Mary’s scored first in back-to-back losses Lake Forest
• BY THE NUMBERS: SMU has scored five goals in both the first and third periods, while netting six goals in the third. On the flip side, the Cardinals’ opponents have scored 10 times in the first period, 13 times in the second, 10 times in the third, and once in OT. … Saint Mary’s is 2-for-42 on the power-play, while killing off 36 of its opponents 47 PP opportunities. … SMU’s four goals, six assists, and 10 points in its 4-2 win over Augsburg on Nov. 18 were all season highs.

• FOR THE RECORD: The Vikings head into their rematch against Saint Mary’s on Saturday sitting at 1-11-0 overall.
• LAST TIME OUT: Lawrence was outshot 60-15 — including 28-1 in the first period — as the Vikings dropped a 3-0 decision to Saint Mary’s Friday evening at the Appleton Ice Center.
• TOUGH START: Lawrence’s 2-0 win over Northland on Nov. 26 was its first in program history, snapping a program-opening 38-game losing streak. The Vikings went 0-9-0 during their first season as a varsity program in 2020-21, and finished 0-21-0 in Year 2 in 2021-22, before dropping its first eight games this season.
• GOAL SHORTAGE: The Vikings have scored just nine goals through 12 games this season, and have been shut out six times. … Lawrence scored just 17 goals during the 2021-22 season, and were held to one goal or less in 19 of their 23 contests — including being shut out 13 times. … On the flip side, Lawrence’s opponents netted six or more goals in 18 of 23 contests.
• LIGHTING THE LAMP: Sofia Alvarez, Lindsey Gulliksen, and Laney Martens all share the team lead in goals with two each, while Delaney Kingsland, Emma Perry, and Gigi Wood have netted Lawrence’s other three goals.
• LENDING A HELPING HAND: Lauren Askenazy boasts a team-leading three assists, one more than Kingsland, with Alvarez, Maddie Donati, Molly Jastrab, Aislinn O’Hagan, and Emma Perry each chipping in one helper.
• POINT PRODUCTION: Askenazy, Kingsland, and Alvarez all sit atop the team’s points lead with three, with Gulliksen and Martens one point back with two. … Alvarez recorded a single-game team-high two points against UW-Superior on UW-Superior on Oct. 29.
• BETWEEN THE PIPES: Lawrence has used three different goalies this season, with Charlie Prior seeing the brunt of the work, compiling a 4.82 goals-against-average and .898 save percentage in 11 appearances (449:56 minutes). Sydney Seeley owns a 5.70 GAA and .866 save % in five starts (189:33), with Maeve Tallman chipping in a 12.00 GAA and .833 save percentage in one appearance (20:00). … Prior has stopped 343 of the 384 shots she’s faced, with Seeley chipping in 116 saves and Tallman added 20. … Prior has made 30 or more saves eight times this season, including a season-high 56 saves twice — against Aurora on Dec. 2 and vs. Saint Mary’s on Friday.
• BY THE NUMBERS: Lawrence put together season-highs in goals (2), assists (3), and points (5) against UW-Superior on Oct. 29, while their 29 shots on goal against Northland on Nov. 26 were a season-best. … Lawrence has scored nine goals on 204 shots, while the Vikings’ opponents have netted 63 goals on 542 chance. … LU is averaging 17.0 shots-per-game, comparted to 45.2 by its opponents. … The Vikings have allowed five or more goals in seven of their 11 losses — including surrendering 10 goals in a 10-0 loss to St. Norbert on Nov. 12, and a season-high 11 goals in falling to Aurora 11-1 last Saturday.
