• LAST TIME OUT: Due to COVID protocols canceling their two-game series against Gustavus and their bye week, the Cardinals have not played since splitting their two games against Hamline on Jan. 21-22. SMU got goals from four different players — and four assists from Callahan Nauss (Wayzata, Minn.) — en route to a 4-2 home win on Jan. 21, before falling 2-1 on the road in the rematch the following evening.

• LIGHTING THE LAMP: Bud Winter (St. Louis, Mo.) enters Tuesday’s game against Gustavus leading the team with five goals, one more than Laudon Poellinger (La Crescent, Minn.) and Gabe Potyk (Lake Orion, Mich.). Trevor Schroder (Des Moines, Iowa), Ryan Stoynich (Calgary, Alberta), Brady Lindauer (Cary, Ill.), and Kasyn Kruse (Luverne, Minn.) have all chipped in three goals.
• FIRST AS A CARDINAL: The Cardinals boast seven players who have scored their first collegiate goals this season — Kruse, Paradise, Poellinger, Potyk, Nathan Solis (Salve, Mich.), Kellen Tharaldson (Wausau, Wis.), and Matt Hutton (Carmel, Ind.).
• LENDING A HAND: Nauss’ four assists against Hamline last Friday marked the first time Saint Mary’s has had a player record four helpers in a game since Jack Stang achieved the feat against Augsburg on Jan. 31, 2020. … The four-assist night was the first of Nauss’ collegiate career, while Tharaldson picked up assists on three of SMU’s four goals vs. the Pipers last Friday for his first three-assist game.
• LENDING A HAND, TAKE 2: With his four assists vs. Hamline, Nauss moved into a tie for the team lead with six helpers, joining Schroder, Hutton, and Lindauer. Stoynich and Tharaldson are close behind with five helpers, while Poellinger and Trevor Wilhelm (St. Louis, Mo.) both own four assists each. … Twelve other Cardinals have collected at least one helper through 11 games.
• POINT PRODUCERS: Schroder (3 G, 6 A) and Lindauer (3 G, 6 A) are the team’s points leaders with nine, one more than Winter (5 G, 3 A), Poellinger (4 G, 4 A), Stoynich (3 G, 5 A), and Hutton (2 G, 6 A).
• MULTIPLE-POINT PERFORMANCES: The Cardinals have had 12 players post multiple-point games this season — led by Stoynich with three multiple-point games, and Hutton and Winter with two each.
• NETTING THE GAME-WINNER: Saint Mary’s six game-winning goals this season have come from six different players — Poellinger, Schroder, Stoynich, Kruse, Potyk, and Tyson Liverance (Burford, Ontario).
• BETWEEN THE PIPES: Connor Close (Des Moines, Iowa) recorded a combined 37 saves in SMU’s two games against Hamline on Jan. 21-22, including a season-high 32-save showing in the Cardinals’ 2-1 loss on Jan. 22. … Close — who collected his first collegiate win against UW-River Falls on Jan. 15 — enters the weekend with a 1.51 goals-against-average and a .940 save percentage. … Matt Sankner (Pennington, N.J.), who recorded his first collegiate win with a career-high 35-save effort against Saint John’s on Nov. 18, equaled that career-high with 35 saves against MSOE on Dec. 7. … Sankner has stopped 30 or more shots four times this season. Sankner boasts a 2.95 GAA and .910 save percentage. … A.J. Ruskowski (Traverse City, Mich.) notched his first collegiate win on Nov. 5, making 28 saves in SMU’s 4-3 win over UW-Superior. Ruskowski followed up that effort by stopping a career-best 43 shots in the Cardinals’ 4-1 loss to UW-Eau Claire the following evening. … Ruskowski owns a 4.57 GAA and an .860 save percentage.
• AS A TEAM: The Cardinals have scored 39 goals through their first 17 games, including nine on the power-play. Saint Mary’s has scored a season-high four goals three time this season — beating Hamline 4-2 Friday, UW-Superior 4-3 on Nov. 5, and dropping St. Olaf 4-1 on Dec. 3.
• FINDING THEIR MIAC GROOVE: The Cardinals are 3-1-0 in their last four conference games, having swept St. Olaf on Dec. 3-4 and splitting with Hamline last weekend. … SMU’s sweep of the Oles on Dec. 3-4 marked its first conference sweep since taking two from Concordia (3-2, 5-0) on Nov. 15-16, 2019.
• STREAKING ALONG: SMU 2-1 loss to Hamline on Jan. 22 snapped the Cardinals’ two-game winning streak. … The Cardinals picked up their first win of the season on Nov. 5, snapping a season-opening three-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over UW-Superior. SMU put an end to its second three-game losing with their 2-1 victory over Saint John’s on Nov. 18, while the Cardinals’ 3-1 win over UW-River Falls on Jan. 15 put an end to a two-game losing streak.
• FIRST-GOAL SUCCESS: In 13 of Saint Mary’s first 17 games this season, the team that has scored first has gone on to win. The Cardinals are 3-1-0 when scoring first, while going 2-9-1 when their opponent nets the game’s first goal.
• WORKING OVERTIME: The Cardinals’ 3-3 tie against Lawrence on Nov. 23 was third OT contest this season. SMU dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to Saint John’s on Nov. 20, while falling 4-3 in OT to Lake Forest in its season-opener on Nov. Oct. 29.
