• 1: Brandon Kurilla (Hastings, Minn.) and Josh Janssen (Green Bay, Wis.) teamed for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles in the Cardinal men’s tennis team’s 8-1 loss to Bethel last Sunday.
• 2-6: Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.) and Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.) both rallied from a set down in posting singles wins in the SMU women’s tennis team’s 5-4 win over Bethel last Sunday. Becker rallied for a 2-6, 6-2, 10-4 win at No. 3 singles, while Johnson also dropped the first set 2-6, before responding with 7-6 (6), 10-4 wins at No. 5.
• 2 x 4: The Cardinal baseball team had four players record two hits in a game in their nonconference sweep of Wheaton last Monday. Tyler O’Brien (Belle Plaine, Minn.) went 2-for-3 in the opener, while Cameron Weber (Holmen, Wis.), Trevon VanEgtern (La Crosse, Wis.), and Brandon Merfeld (La Crosse, Wis.) all had two hits in the nightcap.
• 3: With their back-to-back 5-4 wins last weekend, the Saint Mary’s women’s tennis team pushed its winning streak to a season-high three straight.
• 3: The Saint Mary’s baseball team hit three home runs in its doubleheader sweep of Wheaton last Monday. Daniel Marxen (Maple Grove, Minn.) belted his team-leading third home run in SMU’s 3-2, Game 1 win, while Trevon VanEgtern (La Crosse, Wis.) and Ben Coons (Kimberly, Wis.) launched round-trippers in the Cardinals’ 8-2, Game 2 victory.
• 4-2 x 2: The Saint Mary’s women’s tennis team rallied from a 4-2 deficit to pull out a 5-4 conference wins over both Macalester and Bethel last weekend. The Cardinals got singles wins from Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.), Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.), and Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.) to seal the come-from-behind win over the Scots last Saturday, while the same trio repeated that feat to complete SMU’s 5-4 victory over Bethel the following afternoon.
• 6: Ben Coons (Kimberly, Wis.) hit his first collegiate home run in the Saint Mary’s baseball team’s 8-2, Game 2 win over Wheaton last Monday. Coons became the sixth Cardinal to crush career home run No. 1 this season.
• 42.99: Competing against individuals from NCAA Division I powerhouses Notre Dame, Kansas State, Texas A&M, and Auburn — to name a few — Anna Swanson (Osceola, Wis.) more than held her own, finishing 11th overall in the javelin at the prestigious Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, last Thursday. The only NCAA Division III athlete among the competitors, Swanson opened with a mark of 42.32 meters on her first toss, and, after going 40.27 meters with her second throw, she uncorked her best effort of the evening, delivering a throw of 42.99 meters.
