• THROWING UP ZEOES: Saint Mary’s first five games this season were all decided by shutout. In their first five games of the season, the Cardinals beat UM-Morris 3-0 and Lawrence 2-0 to open the season, before falling to Wartburg (1-0), Carleton (2-0), and Saint Benedict (3-0) … SMU’s wins over UM-Morris and Lawrence marked the second straight season in which the Cardinals opened the season with back-to-back shutout wins.
• NAILBITERS: SMU’s last two games have been decided by one goal or less — the Cardinals dropped a 2-1 decision to Luther on Sept. 21 and battled St. Catherine to a 1-1 draw three days later.
• CAREER FIRSTS: The Cardinals have had three players record their first collegiate goals this season. Along with Williams’ tally against St. Catherine last Friday, Ella Lahart (Sherwood, Ore.) and Lauryn Skoruppa (Littleton, Colo.) both recorded their first goals in a Cardinal uniform against UM-Morris on Sept. 1. … Skoruppa also added an assist against the Cougars on Sept. 1 en route to her first career three-point game.
• SPREADING THE WEALTH: Skoruppa scored her team-leading second goal of the season in the Cardinals’ 2-1 loss to Luther on Sept. 21. The Cardinals’ other five goals have come from five different players — Williams, Lahart, Brooklyn McKinney (Thornton, Colo.), Haddy Falkman (Waconia, Minn.), and Kaley Manglitz (Onalaska, Wis.).
• POINT PRODUCER: Along with her team-leading two goals, Skoruppa also owns one assist for a team-leading five points, one more than Falkman (1 G, 2 A) and two in front of McKinney (1 G, 1 A) and Williams (1 G, 1 A).
• BETWEEN THE PIPES: Alexis Nguyen (West Corvina, Calif.) — the reigning MIAC Defensive Player of the Year — has started six of the team’s seven games in goal, owning a 1.28 goals-against-average and .826 save percentage. … Nguyen did not have to make a save en route to her first shutout of the season against UM-Morris on Sept. 1, before adding a two-save shutout against Lawrence three days later. • BUSY NIGHT: Nguyen made a career-high 12 saves in SMU’s 1-1 tie against St. Catherine last Saturday. It was the second time this season the senior has stopped 10 or more shots in a game, having posted a 10-save effort against Saint Benedict on Sept. 17. … Nguyen has now made 10 or more saves in each of the Cardinals’ last two meetings against St. Catherine, owning 10 saves in last season’s 2-1 win over the Wildcats.

• NEW THIS YEAR: The NCAA implemented a new rule beginning with the 2022 that will eliminate all overtimes in regular-season games. Games that are deadlocked following the scheduled 90 minute will go in the books as ties. Once in post-season, if a game is tied following regulation, there will be two, 10-minute overtime periods — with no golden goal — followed by a shootout if the game is still tied.
