WINONA, Minn. — It's becoming a Saint Mary's University women's hockey team tradition.
For the fourth straight year, when the Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation announced its 15 nominees for the 2023 Hockey Humanitarian Award on Wednesday, one of the nominees was a Cardinal women's hockey player.
And for the second year in a row, that person was
Jordan Keeley (St. Peter, Minn.).
Keeley is the Cardinals' second two-time nominee, joining former teammate
Delaney Wolf, who was selected as the 2021 HHA recipient.
The award, in its 28th season, is presented annually to college hockey's finest citizen — a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team, but also to the community at-large through leadership in volunteering.
Along with being a member of the Cardinal women's hockey team the past five seasons, Keeley has been extremely active in the community. Her most recent volunteering activities include:
• Leader of the Saint Mary's campus Green Bandana Project, which included organizing the Run2ForSMU Green Bandana fundraising event and hosting the We Are Not Really Broken Summit to develop next step in Green Bandana curriculum about where mental health meets leadership.
• Ran/walked 250 miles in 100 days in the summer of 2022 to help raise money for special hockey (raised over $1,000 in donations).
• Served as volunteer coach for the Winona Youth Hockey Association summer program and for Winona's "Try Hockey for Free" event.
• Logged over 70 hours serving as a dog walker at the Winona Humane Society, and was a member of the fundraising and foster board for Alma Tails of Hope. She raised three litters of kittens for Alma Tails of Hope and is currently trying to get the third litter adopted
• Volunteered at the hospital Information desk at Winona Health.
Joining Keeley — one of four repeat nominees — on this year's list are: Jacob Adkins/Andrew Walker (Minnesota State-Mankato), Michael D'Ambrosio (Assumption), Brendan Furry (Minnesota State-Mankato), Ryan Herpy (Albertus Magnus), Gabbie Hughes (UM-Duluth), Ryan Johnson (University of Minnesota), Alessio Luciani (Adrian), Emma Maltais (Ohio State), Spencer Meier (St. Cloud State), Hannah Price (Rensselaer), Will Rosen (Saint Anselm), Addi Scribner (St. Cloud State), Raice Szott (Merrimack), and Sarah Thompson (Syracuse).
Finalists for the 2023 Hockey Humanitarian Award will be announced in February. The 2023 recipient will be announced on Friday, April 7th during the NCAA Men's Frozen Four weekend in Tampa, Florida. Union College's Josh Kosack was honored as the 2022 Hockey Humanitarian Award recipient last year in Boston, Mass.
