SAINT MARY’S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT:

• FOR THE RECORD: Saint Mary’s heads into its conference rematch against league-leading St. Scholastica on Saturday sitting at 11-10-1 overall and 7-6-0 in conference play.

• LAST NIGHT: Brady Lindauer scored three times and the Cardinals erupted for seven goals for the second straight game, handing St. Scholastica its first conference loss with a 7-4 victory Friday evening at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth, Minn.

• ROAD WARRIORS: The Cardinals are in the midst of playing nine of their last 12 games on the road. The Cardinals will close out their regular-season schedule on their home ice next weekend, hosting Concordia for two MIAC tilts. … SMU owns a 5-5-0 record on the road this season, while going 6-5-1 at the SMU Ice Arena.

• SPLITSVILLE: The Cardinals’ 2-0 loss and 7-3 win over Saint John’s last weekend marked the fourth time in the last six weekends that SMU has split its MIAC series. Saint Mary’s also split against Bethel, Hamline and St. Olaf, while sweeping Gustavus and falling twice to Augsburg.

• OFFENSE IN SYNC: With their seven-goal outburst against St. Scholastica Friday night, the Cardinals have now scored four or more goals in a game nine times this season — including back-to-back four-goal efforts against Gustavus on Dec. 3-4, five-goal showings vs. MSOE on Dec. 10 and Northland on Jan. 6, seven-goal performances against Lawrence on Jan. 3, Saint John’s last Saturday, and St. Scholastica on Friday, and a season-high eight-game outburst in beating St. Olaf 8-2 on Jan. 13.

• LONG TIME COMING: The Cardinals’ season-high eight goals in their 8-2 win over St. Olaf on Jan. 13 were the most in a game since SMU netted eight against Hamline on Feb. 23, 2014. … SMU’s seven goals in last Saturday’s 7-3 win over Saint John’s, meanwhile, were the most the Cardinals had scored against the Johnnies since Jan. 16, 1999, when SMU beat SJU 7-4.

• LIGHTING THE LAMP: With his three goals against St. Scholastica on Friday, Lindauer moved into a tie for the team lead in goals (7) with Nikita Sheberov (Obninsk, Russia). Colin Tushie (Prior Lake, Minn.), Callahan Nauss (Maple Plain, Minn.), and Trevor Schroder have all scored three goals, while Warner Young (Newberry, Mich.), Thomas Magnavite (Chicago, Ill.), and Bud Winter (St. Louis, Mo.) have all scored five times. 

• TOSSING THE HAT: Sheberov netted his first collegiate hat trick against Lawrence on Jan. 2, while Lindauer equaled that feat with his first hatty as a Cardinal against St. Scholastica on Friday — scoring SMU’s last three goals in its 7-4 win. … The hat tricks by Sheberov and Lindauer mark the first time SMU has had two players score three goals in a game since the 2015-16 season, when the Cardinals had three players record hat tricks.

• DOUBLING UP: Saint Mary’s has had a player score two or more goals in a game six times this season — including twice by Lindauer, who recorded a two-goal game against St. Olaf on Jan. 13 to go along with Friday’s hat trick vs. St. Scholastica. … Sheberov (3 goals), Winter (2 goals), Kellen Tharaldson (Wausau, Wis. / 2 goals), and Tushie (2 goals) have also enjoyed multiple-goal games this season.

• FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL: Saint Mary’s has six players who have scored their first goals in a Cardinal uniform this season: Campion, Tushie, Luke Cioli (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Blake Campbell (Keller, Texas), Jackson Nauss (Maple Plain, Minn.), and Brendan Westbrook (Pine City, Minn.).

• LENDING A HAND: Tharaldson (Wausau, Wis.) has racked up a team-leading 12 assists, one more than Poellinger, while Young and Campion have recorded eight assists, and Lindauer, Tushie, Magnavite, and Winter all own seven.

• POINT PRODUCERS: The Cardinals boast nine players who have racked up 10 or more points this season, led by Tharaldson and Poellinger with 15 each, and Lindauer with 14. Tushie (13), Young (13), Magnavite (12), Campion (12), Winter (12), and Sheberov (10) have also reached double digits in points this season.

• LUCKY NO. 3: Lindauer collected a pair of assists to go along with his two goal en route to his first collegiate four-point night against St. Olaf on Jan. 13, while Sheberov and Campion have each recorded career-high three-point games — Sheberov’s coming on three goals against Lawrence on Jan. 2, while Campion picked up a pair of assists to go with his first-period goal against Gustavus on Dec. 2. … Winter collected helpers on three of SMU’s four goals vs. the Gusties on Dec. 2 for his first career three-assist game — and third career three-point night.

• WEEKLY HONORS: After scoring two goals and adding a pair of assists against Lake Forest on Oct. 28-29, Poellinger was named the MIAC Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Oct. 31.

• BETWEEN THE PIPES: Saint Mary’s has used three different goalies this season. Sankner has stopped 299 of the 331 shots he’s faced in 11 appearances en route to a 3.10 GAA and a .903 save percentage, while A.J. Ruskowski (Traverse City, Mich.) has appeared in 11 games — including nine starts — and owns a 3.10 GAA and .903 save %. Connor Close (Des Moines, Iowa) boasts a 5.34 GAA, .831 save % and has made 69 saves in his three starts. … Sankner delivered a career-high 45-save effort against Augsburg on Nov. 18, while Ruskowski stopped a season-best 42 shots against St. Olaf on Jan. 13 and Close recorded a career-high 36 saves against Lake Forest on Oct. 29.

• FROM DEFENSE TO OFFENSE: Sankner collected his first collegiate assist, getting the lone helper on Sheberov’s first goal in the second period SMU’s 6-3 win over Lawrence on Jan. 2. … Sankner’s assist is the first by a Cardinal goalie since Nick Nash picked up an assist against Gustavus on Oct. 26, 2018.

• WORKING OVERTIME: The Cardinals have played three overtime games this season — beating Bethel 3-2 last Saturday, topping Northland 5-4 on Jan. 6, and battling Lake Forest to a 5-5 draw on Oct. 28.

• STREAKING: The Cardinals had their season-high six-game win streak snapped with their 4-1 loss to UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 7. After opening the season 1-6-1, SMU had rattled off wins over Lawrence (3-1), Gustavus (4-1 & 4-3), MSOE (5-3), Lawrence (6-3), and Northland (5-4 OT). … Saint Mary’s six-game win streak was its longest since winning six in a row during the 2005-06 season.

• CLEAN SHEET: Saint Mary’s was not whistled for a penalty in its 3-1 win over Lawrence on Nov. 22. All told, there were just two penalties called in the nonconference contest, both against the Vikings.

• SCORING FIRST: Saint Mary’s is 8-3-0 when netting the game’s first goal, while going 3-7-1 when its opponent scores first. … The Cardinals were 6-1-0 when netting the game’s first goal a year ago, while going 2-13-1 when their opponent nets the game’s first goal.

• BETTER LATE THAN NEVER: It was a tale of late-game heroics in SMU’s conference-opening series against Hamline on Nov. 4-5. HU scored two goals in the game’s final 3:33 en route to a 3-2 win over the Cardinals in the first game on Nov. 4, with SMU turning the tables in the rematch, scoring twice in a 33-second span in the final two minutes of regulation en route to a 2-1 victory the following evening.

• BY THE NUMBERS: Saint Mary’s has outscored its opponents 22-19 in the first period, but have been outscored 27-21 in the second and 33-28 in the third. … Saint Mary’s is 14 of 86 on the power play (16.3 %), while killing off 77 of its opponents’ 94 power-play opportunities (81.9 %). … SMU set season-highs in goals (8), assists (14), and points (22) against St. Olaf on Jan. 13, while its 46 shots on goal against Lawrence on Nov. 22 are also a season high 

ST. SCHOLASTICA SAINTS SCOUTING REPORT:

• FOR THE RECORD: The Saints return to the ice against Saint Mary’s sitting at 14-6-2 overall, including a league-leading 11-1-1 mark in conference play.

• LAST NIGHT: St. Scholastica scored two goals in each of the first two period, but surrendered three unanswered goals to SMU’s Brady Lindauer in suffering its first conference loss of the season, 7-4 Friday evening at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth, Minn.

• HOME SWEET HOME: The Saints play three of their final four regular-season games on their home ice, hosting Saint Mary’s for the second of two straight home contests on Saturday, and playing a home-and-home against Augsburg next weekend. CSS is 8-2-1 at home this season, while sporting a 6-4-1 mark away from Mars Lakeview Arena.

• STREAK-SNAPPER: With Friday’s 7-4 loss to Saint Mary’s, St. Scholastica had its season-high winning streak snapped at six. Prior to Friday’s setback vs. SMU, CSS had not lost since dropping a 6-3 decision to UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 14. … Since opening the season 1-3-0 — including back-to-back-to-back losses to MSOE (1-0), UW-Stout (4-1), and UW-Stevens Point (2-1) — the Saints have gone 13-3-2 in its last 18 games.

• LIGHTING THE LAMP: St. Scholastica heads into Saturday’s rematch with Saint Mary’s having amassed 92 goals in 22 games, and boasts four players with 10 or more goals this season. Arkhip Ledenkov leads the way for CSS, owning 18 goals, followed by Nathan Adrian with 16, Carsen Richels with 14, and Filimon Ledenkov with 11. … Filimon Ledenkov and Tristan Shewchuk have each recorded hat tricks this season — Ledenkov against Saint John’s on Nov. 18 and Shewchuk vs. Gustavus on Nov. 10.

• LENDING A HELPING HAND: Filimon Ledenkov has dished out a team-best 24 assists, with Arkhip Ledenkov (20), Richels (18), Adrian (14), Jacob Seitz (13), Shewchuk (12), and Danylo Sukonos (12) also reaching double digits in assists this season. … Filimon Ledenkov notched a season-best four assists against St. Olaf on Jan. 21.

• POINT PRODUCTION: Arkhip and Filimon Ledenkov, as well as Richels and Adrian, have all reached the 30-point plateau — Arkhip Ledenkov leads the way with 38 points, followed by Filimon Ledenkov with 35, Richels with 32, and Adrian with 30. … CSS has had a player post four points in a game five times — twice by both Arkhip and Filimon Ledenkov and once by Adrian.

• BETWEEN THE PIPES: St. Scholastica has used three different goaltenders this season, led by Jack Bostedt, who has started 20 of the team’s 22 games, compiling a 2.54 goals-against-average and .925 save percentage. Oliver Quinn has appeared in two games (100:17 minutes), posting a 2.39 GAA and.931 save %, while Jack Branby has made one appearance (17:34 minutes), allowing four goals and stopping seven of 11 shots faced. … Bostedt has recorded 605 saves and owns the team’s lone shutout — a 26-save effort against Hamline on Jan. 27. … Bostedt posted back-to-back, season-high 45-save performances against Saint John’s on Nov. 18-19.

• BY THE NUMBERS: St. Scholastica has been outshot 754-616 through 22 games, but has outscored its opponents 92-62 — including 25-20 in the first period, 31-27 in the second, and 34-15 in the third. … CSS has scored 18 power-play goals, going 18-for-82 with the man-advantage (22.0 %) and has killed off 71 of its opponents 78 power-play opportunities (91.0 %). …  The Saints recorded season-highs in goals (10), assists (18), and points (28) against Gustavus on Nov. 10, while posting a season-high 44 shots on goal against Concordia (Wis.) on Oct. 28. … CSS has played four overtime games this season, going 2-0-2 — beating Gustavus (2-1) and Hamline (4-3), while tying Saint John’s (2-2) and UW-Superior (2-2).
