SAINT MARY’S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT:

• FOR RECORD: The Cardinals head into their regular-season finale against Concordia on Saturday sitting at 7-15-2 overall, including a 4-11-2 mark in conference play.

• LAST NIGHT: Kas Kingston (Black Diamond, Alberta) scored with five seconds to play in regulation, as the Cardinals battled Concordia to a 1-1, overtime tie Friday evening at Moorhead Sports Center in Moorhead, Minn.

• ROAD SUCCESS: Four of the Cardinals’ seven wins this season have come on the road. … Saint Mary’s is sitting at 3-6-1 on its home ice this year, while sporting a 4-9-` mark away from the Saint Mary’s Ice Arena.

• SPLITSVILLE: The Cardinals have split three of their last four MIAC conference series, going 1-1 against St. Scholastica, Bethel and St. Catherine. For the season, SMU has split four of its eight conference series, having also split with Augsburg (W, 4-2; L, 3-2), while being swept by Gustavus (L, 4-0; L, 3-0), Hamline (3-0; 4-1), and Saint Benedict (3-1, 3-2 OT), and going 0-1-1 against St. Olaf (T, 2-2; L, 2-1).

• CLOSE CALLS: Seven of Saint Mary’s last eight games have been decided by two goals or less. All told, 14 of SMU’s 24 games have been decided by two or fewer goals.

• WORKING OVERTIME: SMU’s 1-1 tie against Concordia on Friday was its sixth overtime game of the season, going 2-2-2 in those six contests. … SMU owns a pair of 2-1 OT wins over Bethel and UW-Stevens Point, while falling to Lake Forest (3-2) and Saint Benedict (3-2), and tying St. Olaf (2-2) and Concordia (1-1). … Saint Mary’s has now played 10 overtime games in the last two seasons.

• LIGHTING THE LAMP: Kingston’s goal against Concordia on Friday was her team-leading seventh of the season, moving her one in front of Sidney Polzin (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) and two up on Taryn Dornseif (Somerset, Wis.). Allie Urlaub (Burnsville, Minn.), Jenna Kurkowski (North Branch, Minn.), and Anna Braun (Mantorville, Minn.) have all chipped in four goals. … SMU’s 48 goals have come from 16 different players.

• FIRST AS A CARDINAL: Saint Mary’s has had five players score their first collegiate goals this season: Sherner, Dornseif, Parker, Jordy Wyant (Winnipeg, Manitoba), and Teagan Phillips (Oregon, Wis.).

• A NIGHT TO REMEMBER: Sidney Polzin (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) recorded her first collegiate hat trick and her first career five-point game in SMU’s 5-0 win over St. Catherine on Jan. 20. The hat trick was Saint Mary’s first since Bailey Wendt scored four times against Bethel on Feb. 3, 2018, while her five-point night was the team’s first since Nicole Olson equaled that feat with three goals and two helpers against St. Norbert on Nov. 4, 2011.

• NIGHT TO REMEMBER II: Urlaub delivered a goal and three assists in the Cardinals’ 5-1 win over St. Scholastica last Saturday. The three assists and four points were both career highs.

• SPREADING THE WEALTH: SMU’s eight goals in its 8-0 win over Lawrence on Dec. 10 were scored by eight different players — Dornself, Parker, Braun, Kingston, Kurkowski, Carmean, Katie Devine (Glencoe, Ill.), and Elle Hegdahl (Brookings, S.D.).

• SPREADING THE WEALTH II: Saint Mary’s 10 points in its 4-2 win over Augsburg on Nov. 18 came from 10 different players: Phillips, Sherner, Urlaub, and Polzin scored goals, while Kennedy Kraus (Kasson, Minn.), Ella Ausman (Chippewa Falls, Minn.), Hegdahl, Dornself, Katie Pierpont (Holt, Mich.), and Parker all had assists.

• LENDING A HAND: With her three assists against St. Scholastica last Saturday, Urlaub moved into the team lead with seven helpers, followed by Polzin and Kingston with six each. Hegdahl, Pierpont, Anne Carmean (Spring Lake Park, Minn.), Sydney Green (East Bethel, Minn.), and Kennedy Kraus (Kasson, Minn.) have all chipped in four assists.

• POINT PRODUCERS: Saint Mary’s boasts three players who have reached double figures in points — Kingston leads the way with 13 points, followed by Polzin with 12 and Urlaub with 11. Dornseif is fourth with eight points, followed by Hegdahl (7), Kurkowski (7), Carmean (6), Green (6), and Pierpont (6).

• DOUBLING UP: SMU had four players post multiple-point games against Lawrence on Dec. 10. Devine, Kurkowski, and Kingston all had a goal and an assist, while Polzin had two assists.

• BETWEEN THE PIPES: Jordan Keeley (St. James, Minn.) and Celeste Rimstad (Richfield, Minn.) have shared the goaltending duties for the Cardinals this season. Keeley has stopped 388 of the 424 shots she’s faced in 16 appearances and owns a 2.50 goals-against-average and .919 save percentage, while Rimstad has recorded 240 saves in her first 13 appearances as a Cardinal, and sports a 1.82 GAA and .927 save %. … Keeley has stopped 30 or more shots in six times this season. … Rimstad has made 30 or more saves in a game twice, including a career-high 40-save showing vs. Hamline Nov. 12.

• A BRICK WALL: Rimstad stopped all 24 shots she faced against St. Catherine on Jan. 20 and has now recorded two shutouts this season — having recorded a 13-save shutout against Lawrence on Dec. 10. … Rimstad had her scoreless minute streak ended at 195:56 minutes, giving up a first-period goal to St. Catherine’s Ellie Skaja at 7:42 of the first period on Jan. 21. It was the first goal the SMU freshman has allowed since a late, third-period goal by Hamline on Nov. 12.

• THROWING UP BLANKS: Keeley and Rimstad both collected shutouts against Lawrence on Dec. 9-10. Keeley kicked out all 15 shots she faced on Dec. 9 for her first shutout of the season, and fourth of her collegiate career, while Rimstad stopped all 13 shots in the rematch the following afternoon for career shutout No. 1.

• BACK-TO-BACK GOOSE EGGS: The Cardinals’ 3-0 and 8-0 wins over Lawrence on Dec. 9-10 mark the first time since the 2003-04 season in which SMU has posted back-to-back shutouts. SMU did it three times during the 2003-04 season — beating Concordia (3-0) and St. Catherine (5-0); Bethel (3-0 and 5-0); and Hamline 8-0 and 5-0).

• CAREER NIGHT: Keeley stopped a career-high 49 shots in SMU’s 3-2 loss to Augsburg on Nov. 19. The 49 saves were four more than her previous career-best and the most by a Cardinal goalie since Ary Ziakas stopped 55 against Gustavus on Jan. 28, 2022. 

• TOTAL DOMINATION: Saint Mary’s finished with 121 shots on goal against Lawrence on Dec. 9-10, while holding the Vikings to a combined 28. SMU outshot Lawrence 28-1 in the first period on Dec. 9 and boasted a 26-5 edge in shots in the second period on Dec. 10.

• MAKING THEIR MARK: The Cardinals’ 59 shots on goal against Lawrence on Dec. 9 rank No. 6 all-time, while their 62 shots the following afternoon are tied for No. 3 all-time.  The program-record for shots on goal in a game is 80 against St. Olaf on Nov. 11, 2000.

• BY THE NUMBERS: SMU has scored 12 goals in the first period, while netting 16 goals in the second and 18 in the third. On the flip side, the Cardinals’ opponents have scored 15 times in the first period, 22 times in the second, and 19 times in the third. … SMU’s four third-period goals against Lawrence on Dec. 10 were a single-period season-high. … The Cardinals recorded season-highs in goals (8), assists (8), points (16), and shots on goal (62) against Lawrence on Dec. 10

CONCORDIA COBBERS SCOUTING REPORT:

• FOR THE RECORD: The Cobbers head into their final game of the regular season Saturday against Saint Mary’s sitting at 6-17-1 overall, including a 3-13-1 mark in MIAC play.

• LAST NIGHT: Kiana Flaig made 42 saves and allowed just one goal — a Kas Kingston tally with five seconds remaining in regulation — in leading the Cobbers to a 1-1 tie against Saint Mary’s Saturday at the Moorhead Sports Center in Moorhead, Minn.

• LIMPING IN: The Cobbers head to the Saint Mary’s Ice Arena having dropped two straight and five of their last six, the lone exception, a 2-0 win over Augsburg on Feb. 4 that snapped a three-game CC losing streak. … After opening the season 3-0-0, CC is just 3-17-0 in its last 20 contests.

• HOME SWEET HOME: Last weekend’s games at Gustavus were the final two road games of the season for the Cobbers, who finished the road portion of their schedule with just two wins in 13 contests. CC is 4-6-1 on its home ice this season.

• LIGHTING THE LAMP: Jerica Friese heads into this weekend’s games against Saint Mary’s leading the Cobbers in scoring with 12 goals, three more than Morgan Sauvageau. The duo have accounted for 21 of the team’s 42 goals — no other Cobber has more than three tallies this season. … Friese scored a season-high three goals against Finlandia on Nov. 5.

• LENDING A HELPING HAND: Paige Hanson has dished out a team-best 10 assists, followed closely by Geghan Bork with nine. Abbey Hardwick, McKenzie Oelkers, and Grace Doerring are tied for third with five helpers, one more than Friese, Emma Fetch, and Kaylie Klemetsrud. …Hanson dished out a single-game season-high three helpers against Finlandia on Nov. 4

• POINT PRODUCTION: CC heads into Saturday’s game boasting four players who have reached double figures in points — Friese (16), Hanson (13), Sauvageau (11), and Bork (10). … Hanson delivered a season-high four points against Finlandia on Nov. 4.

• BETWEEN THE PIPES: CC has used three different goalies this season, led by Flaig, who has appeared in 16 games (871:44 minutes), compiling a 3.10 goals-against-average and .911 save percentage. Becca Macklin has made 10 appearances (522:42), posting a 3.10 GAA and .901 save %, while Hailee Bailey has played in two games (42:06, 9.98 GAA, .816 save %). … Flaig owns 458 saves — including a season-high 42-save efforts against both Gustavus on Feb. 10 and vs. Saint Mary’s on Friday — and has been between the pipes for four of CC’s six wins. Macklin, meanwhile, boasts two wins and 247 saves.

• WORKING OVERTIME: The Cobbers have played five overtime games this season — with Friday’s 1-1 tie against Saint Mary’s the only one not decided in the extra five-minute session. CC beat Northland (2-1) and Bethel (3-2), while falling to Hamline (4-3) and Bethel (3-2).

• BY THE NUMBERS: Concordia has been outscored 80-43 through 24 games, including 27-13 in the first period, 33-14 in the second, and 18-14 in the third. … Eleven of CC’s 43 goals have come on special teams — nine power-play tallies and two shorties. The Cobbers are 9-for-90 on the power play (10.0 %), and have killed off 64 of their opponent’s 78 power-play chances (82.1 %). … Concordia set season-highs for goals (8), assists (16), and points (24) in an 8-0 win over Finlandia on Nov. 4, while posting a season-best 53 shots on goal the following afternoon against the Lions. …
