• 3-0: Tucker Stene (Fridley, Minn.) picked up singles wins in all three of the Saint Mary’s men’s tennis team’s nonconference matches last week, posting straight-set wins against Lawrence and Ripon, and adding a three-set marathon win against St. Norbert.
• 4: Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) recorded her fourth double-double of the season in the SMU women’s basketball team’s 83-69 win over St. Scholastica last Saturday, scoring 21 points and adding a career-high 17 rebounds.
• 2 x 2: The Cardinal men’s and women’s track and field teams each brought home two first-place finishes at last Saturday’s Luther Invitational. Emily Kern (Buffalo, Minn.) stopped the clock in 5:32.48 in winning the mile, while Samantha Kubes (New Prague Minn. delivered a toss of 14.34 in winning the weight throw for the SMU women. On the men’s side, Aiden Gatz (Elburn, Ill.) cleared 3.81 meters in winning the pole vault and Chris Bulwa (Glenview, Ill.) crossed the tape in 22.98 to take home the 200 title.
• 4.0: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) converted a four-point play with 4.0 seconds remaining in regulation, lifting the Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team to a 66-65 win over St. Olaf last Wednesday. The last-second victory marked the third straight game decided in the game’s final four seconds — SMU dropped a 65-63 decision to Carleton on two FTs with 1.6 seconds remaining on Jan. 28, and fell to Hamline 87-84 in overtime on a Piper 3-pointer at the buzzer.
• 5: Ashley Streveler (Colby, Wis.) poured in five 3-pointers en route to a 15-point night in the SMU women’s basketball team’s 75-69 loss to St. Olaf last Wednesday. Streveler has now netted a season-high five 3-pointers in a game twice this season.
• 5: The SMU women’s hockey team’s 3-2 loss to Saint Benedict last Saturday was its fifth overtime game of the season — with the Cardinals going 2-2-1 in those five contests.
• 5: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) eclipsed the 30-point mark for the fifth time this season on Monday, scoring 33 points in the SMU men’s basketball team’s 87-84 overtime loss to Hamline.
• 6: The Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team’s last six games — including all three last week — have all been decided by four points or less, while 15 of the Cardinals’ 21 games this season have been decided by 10 points or less — including 12 of 16 MIAC contests.
• 6: The Cardinal men’s tennis team played six singles matches extended to a third set last weekend against Lawrence, Ripon, and St. Norbert — including three against the Green Knights in a 5-4 loss last Sunday. SMU was 5-1 in those six matches.
• 7: The Saint Mary’s men’s hockey team’s seven goals in its 7-3 rout against Saint John’s last Saturday came from seven different players — Callahan Nauss (Maple Plain, Minn.), Jackson Nauss (Maple Plain, Minn.), Laudon Poellinger (La Crescent, Minn.), Colin Tushie (Prior Lake, Minn.), Brady Lindauer (Cary, Ill.), Thomas Magnavite (Chicago, Ill.), and Warner Young (Newberry, Mich.).
• 7-3: The SMU men’s hockey team’s seven goals in last Saturday’s 7-3 win over Saint John’s were the most scored against the Johnnies since Jan. 16, 1999, when the Cardinals beat SJU 7-4.
• 8: With their seven goal outburst against Saint John’s last Saturday, the Cardinal men’s hockey team has now scored four or more goals in a game eight times this season — including back-to-back four-goal efforts against Gustavus on Dec. 3-4, five-goal showings vs. MSOE on Dec. 10 and Northland on Jan. 6, seven-goal performances against Lawrence on Jan. 3 and Saint John’s last Saturday, and a season-high eight-game outburst in beating St. Olaf 8-2 on Jan. 13.
• 9: Raheem Anthony notched double-double No. 9 in the Cardinal men’s basketball team’s 87-85 overtime win over Hamline last Monday, scoring 33 points and adding 10 rebounds.
• 11: Bruce Lockwood (Shakopee, Minn.) hauled in a career-high 11 rebounds in the Cardinal men’s basketball team’s 57-54 win over St. Scholastica last Saturday. Lockwood is the third different Cardinal to record double figures in rebounds this season — joining Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) and Nick Falls (Plymouth, Wis.).
• 12: With their overtime loss to Hamline (87-84) and wins over St. Olaf (66-65) and St. Scholastica (57-54), 12 of the Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team’s 16 conference games this season have been decided by 10 points or less — including the last six all being decided by less than five points.
• 12: The Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team got scoring from 12 different players in last Saturday’s 83-69 win over St. Scholastica.
• 13: The Cardinal women’s basketball team shot 59.1 percent from behind the 3-point line, knocking down a season-high 13 3-pointers in last Wednesday’s 75-69 loss to St. Olaf.
• 14: Katelyn Cruze (Litchfield, Minn.) hauled in a career-high 14 rebounds in the Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team’s 70-57 win over Hamline on Monday. The 14 boards were four more than her previous career-high.
• 17: Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) hauled in a career-high 17 rebounds against St. Scholastica last Saturday. It was the highest single-game performance since Brandi Blattner's 20-rebound showing on Feb. 10, 2018.
• 19-14: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) and Owen Ziegler (Mount Horeb, Wis.) scored 19 and 14 points, respectively, in the Cardinal men’s basketball team’s 57-54 win over St. Scholastica last Saturday.
• 21: The Saint Mary’s track and field teams delivered 21 Top 10 performances — including four firsts and five seconds — at last Saturday’s Luther Invitational, leading the SMU men to a third-place finish, while the Cardinal women placed fifth.
• 20 x 2: Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) and Ashley Streveler (Colby, Wis.) each reached the 20-point mark in the SMU women’s basketball team’s 83-69 win over St. Scholastica last Saturday, with Paulson scoring 26 points and Streveler adding 21. It was the first time this season SMU has had two players net 20+ points in the same game, and the first time since Jan. 10 of 2020 that the Cardinals had two 20+ point scorers.
• 26: Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) scored a season-high 26 points in leading the Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team to a 70-57 win over Hamline last Monday. Paulson has now scored 20 or more points five times tis season.
• 83: The Cardinal women’s basketball team scored a season-high 83 points in last Saturday’s 83-69 win over St. Scholastica. The 83 points against CSS marked their highest offensive output since beating Carleton 85-58 on Jan. 8, 2022.
