DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Saint Mary's University track and field teams took the name of Friday's University of Dubuque Invitational quite literally.
It was a good Friday — a very good Friday — for the Cardinals, as they posted 17 Top 10 performances at the UD Good Friday Invitational.
Pole vaulters Aiden Gatz (Elburn, Ill.) and
Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.) led the way for the Cardinals, with Gatz clearing 4.10 meters to place second, while Gearin posted a mark of 3.10 meters in finishing third.
Gearin also chipped in a fourth in the 400 (1:01.57), while
Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.) recorded fourths in both the hammer throw (47.25m) and shot put (11.51m), and
Morgan Wallendal (Fond du Lac, Wis.) added a fourth in the discus (38.52).
Other Top 10 performers for the SMU women included
Sydney Jackman (Litchfield, Minn. / fifth, shot put, 11.47m),
Caeli McMahon (Holmen, Wis. / 800, seventh, 2:36.01), Wallendal (shot put, eighth, 10.74; hammer, ninth, 36.65m),
Anna Becker (Cannon Falls, Minn. / hammer, eighth, 37.81m),
Megan Frosch (Oconomowoc, Wis. / 800, ninth, 2:38.22), and
Abrianna Utgaard (Star Prairie, Wis. / 400, ninth, 1:04.68)
On the men's side, Chris Bulwa (Glenview, Ill.) and Antonio Cisewski (Custer, Wis.) each recorded fifth-place performances — Bulwa's with a time of 50.08 in the 400 and Cisewski's with a mark of 6.47 in the long jump — and Casen Fritz (Minnesota City, Minn.) added an eighth in the hammer (44.30m).
The Cardinals are back in action on April 15, when they return home to the Saint Mary's Track & Field Complex to host their lone outdoor meet of the season, the Saint Mary's Invitational.
