WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's hockey team had five players — seniors Brady Lindauer (Cary, Ill.) and Jackson Nauss (Maple Plain, Minn.), junior Warner Young (Newberry, Mich.), and sophomores Gabe Potyk (Lake Orion, Mich.) and Kasyn Kruse (Luverne, Minn.) — who earned College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District® honors, it was announced Tuesday.

The 2023 Academic All-District® At-Large Team, which includes the sports of hockey, xxxxx, and is selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

CSC Academic All-District® At-Large qualifiers come from 12 NCAA Division III women's sports and 10 NCAA Division III men's sports, including: beach volleyball (women), bowling (women), golf, gymnastics, field hockey (women), ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, volleyball (men), water polo, and wrestling (men).

Athletes must carry a 3.50 grade-point-average on a 4.0 scale — while completing at least one full calendar year at the institution — have appeared in 50 percent of the team's contests, and made a significant impact on the field of competition to be eligible.

Lindauer, a Business Intelligence & Analytics / Finance double major with a 4.0 grade-point-average — and the Cardinals team captain for the past two seasons — closed out his senior season sharing the team lead in goals (7), while adding seven assists for 14 points. He recorded his first collegiate hat trick with three goals against St. Scholastica on Feb. 10, and finished the year with one game-winning goal.

Nauss, a Finance major with a 4.0 GPA, appeared in all 25 games for the Cardinals, scoring a pair of goals and adding two assists for four points. He scored his first goal in a Saint Mary's jersey against Gustavus on Dec. 2.

Kruse, a Business Intelligence & Analytics / Finance / Management triple major with a 3.85 GPA, appeared in 24 games for the Cardinals in 2022-23, matching his career-high with three goals, while posting career-bests in both assists (4) and points (7).

Young, a Business Intelligence & Analytics / Finance double major with a 3.89 GPA, enjoyed a banner sophomore campaign in 2022-23, recording career-highs in all three offensive categories — goals (6), assists (8), and points 14. Three of Young's six goals came on the power-play, tying him for the team lead.

Potyk, a Business Intelligence & Analytics / Finance with a 4.0 GPA, scored three goals and posted career-highs in both assists (7) and points (10) in 19 games played in 2022-23. Potyk netted one game-winning goal last season, tallying the game-winner against Lawrence on Nov. 22.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early June.
