WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's hockey team had five players — graduate student
Jordan Keeley (St. Peter, Minn.), senior
Sydney Green (East Bethel, Minn.), junior
Anne Carmean (Spring Lake Park, Minn.), and sophomores
Allie Urlaub (Burnsville, Minn.) and
Sidney Polzin (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) — who earned College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District® honors, it was announced Tuesday.
The 2023 Academic All-District® At-Large Team is selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
CSC Academic All-District® At-Large qualifiers come from 12 NCAA Division III women's sports and 10 NCAA Division III men's sports, including: beach volleyball (women), bowling (women), golf, gymnastics, field hockey (women), ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, volleyball (men), water polo, and wrestling (men).
Athletes must carry a 3.50 grade-point-average on a 4.0 scale — while completing at least one full calendar year at the institution — have appeared in 50 percent of the team's contests, and made a significant impact on the field of competition to be eligible.
Keeley, a Biology / Pre-Physical Therapy / Leadership triple major with a 4.00 grade-point-average, was a mainstay between the pipes for the Cardinals in 2022-23, compiling a 2.49 goals-against-average and .920 save percentage in 17 games. She finished with a team-high 389 saves and boasted one shutout.
Green, a Biology / Pre-Physician Assistant double major with a 3.62 GPA and the 2022-23 Cardinals captain, played in all 25 games, scoring two goals and adding four assists for six points.
Carmean, a Biology / Pre-Physician Assistant / Health Science triple major with a 3.79 GPA, closed out the season with seven points, scoring three goals and adding four assists, while owning a team-best +6 +/- rating and playing all 25 games without being whistled for a penalty.
Polzin, a Biology / Pre-Physical Therapy double major with a 3.73 GPA, enjoyed a banner sophomore season, sitting second on the team in all three offensive categories — goals (6), assists (5), and points (12). Polzin scored a pair of game-winning goals, including the OT game-winner against UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 7, and netted her first collegiate hat trick against St. Catherine on Jan. 20.
Urlaub, a Finance / Accounting double major with a 3.61 GPA, was among the team's offensive leaders during her sophomore campaign. The forward shared the team lead in assists with seven, while sitting third on the squad in both goals (5) and points (12). She scored one game-winning goal netting the OT game-winner against Concordia in SMU's 4-3 win over Concordia on Feb. 18.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early June.
