WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University track and field/cross country teams had six athletes —
Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.),
Sydney Jackman (Litchfield, Minn.),
Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.),
Emily Kern (Buffalo, Minn.),
Gabe Bickerstaff (Rollingstone, Minn.), and
Isaiah Brindamour (Hinckley, Minn.) — who earned College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District® honors, it was announced Wednesday.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Track & Field/Cross Country Team, which is selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Athletes must carry a 3.50 grade-point-average on a 4.0 scale — while completing at least one full calendar year at the institution — have appeared in 50 percent of the team's contests, and made a significant impact on the field of competition to be eligible.
Gearin, a Biology / Health Sciences double-major with a 3.65 grade-point-average, was one of the Cardinals' top performances all year during the cross country season, while adding honorable-mention All-MIAC honors in the indoor pole vault to her ever-growing MIAC accolades — which include four All-MIAC selections and indoor pole vault title in 2021.
Kubes, a Biochemistry major with a 3.61 GPA — collected her first All-MIAC honor with a third-place showing in the hammer throw at the 2023 MIAC Outdoor Championships — while Jackman, a Biology / Nursing double-major with a perfect 4.0 GPA, earned honorable-mention honors in the shot put at the 2023 conference outdoor championships.
Kern, a Psychology major with a 4.0 GPA; Bickerstaff, a Philosophy major with a 3.85 GPA; and Brindamour, a Biology / Pre-Physician Assistant major with a 4.0 GPA, were all among the top performers for the men's and women's cross country teams during the 2022 season.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early June.
