ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — In what was expected to be the most competitive meet of the regular season, the Saint Mary's cross country team rose to the challenge. The Cardinals recorded a total of five season or personal bests at the Augustana Interregional Invitational, which featured 15 nationally ranked men's teams and 13 ranked women's teams this morning.
Mya Slavin raced first, being the only Cardinal to run in the Gold 6K race of the day.Â
As usual, she had a phenomenal race. She broke the tape with a new personal best time of 23:55, finishing behind the Saint Mary's school record by only four seconds. She placed 52nd in her race.
The men raced next in the Blue 8K race.Â
Isaiah Fitzgerald led the way for the Cardinals, placing 63rd out of 451 runners with a season-best time of 27:09. Sam Grywacz followed in 258th, clocking in at 29:26. Goi Ruei (337th, 30:44) finished just ahead of teammate Liam Smith (344th, 30:53), with both runners setting season and personal bests.
Three Saint Mary's women participated in the Blue 6K races at the meet.Â
The first to finish was Kendra Schneider, who tied her personal best time of 24:48 and finished 64th out of the 326 women in the race. Katherine Georgen finished in 28:23 in 220th. Addison Burckhardt was the final cardinal to cross the finish line, finishing out her race with a personal best time of 29:11 and 247th.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday November 1st at Highland Park Golf Course for the MIAC Conference meet hosted by Hamline University for an 11:00 a.m. start time.
