COLFAX, Wis. — Midway through the season, the goal for the Saint Mary's University cross country team is to continue to improve — which is exactly what the Cardinals did Friday evening.
Isaiah Fitzgerald (Rochester, Minn.) and
Caeli McMahon (Holmen, Wis.) led the way for the Cardinals at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational, as Fitzgerald clocked a career-best 8-kilometer time of 27:52.60, while McMahon continued to lead the charge for the SMU women, posting a season-best 6K time of 25:53.50.
Delorean Peterson (Blair, Wis.) was the second SMU male runner across the finish line, stopping the clock in 28:31.40, followed by
Sean Smyth (Pinehurst, N.C. / 28:37.40),
Gabe Schonknecht (Chicago, Ill. / 28:48.50),
Sam Morris (Hockinson, Minn. / 29:01.80),
Caden Fisher (Gardner, Kan. / 30:51.70),
Evan Finney (West End, N.C. / 30:52.60), and
Cade Kloss (Apple Valley, Minn. / 33:13:30).
Rheanna Hopkins (Bruce, Wis.) also posted a career-best time on Friday, stopping the clock in 26:50.20, with
Megan Frosch (Oconomowoc, Wis. / 27:16.60) and
Abbie Meyer (Sauk Centre, Minn. / 27:32.70) rounding out the SMU lineup.
The Cardinals are now off until Oct. 14, when they head to Augustana, Ill., to take part in the Augustana Inter-Regional, hosted by Augustana College (Ill.).
