WINONA, Minn. — It was a weekend of collegiate firsts for Saint Mary's University's
Colin Tushie (Prior Lake, Minn.), so it was only fitting that the Cardinal sophomore tacked on one more "first" on Monday.
Â
Tushie delivered five points — including his first collegiate hat trick and first career four-point game – in helping lead the SMU men's hockey team to a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sweep of St. Olaf over the weekend.
Â
And Monday, Tushie collected another first when he was named MIAC Offensive Player of the Week when the league office announced its weekly award-winners.
Â
Tushie had a hand in four of SMU's five goals in last Friday's 5-2 win over the Oles, scoring three times — including a pair of third-period goals that not only capped the hat trick, but also sealed the SMU victory — while also collecting an assist on one of the Cardinals' other two goals. Tushie then rounded out his five-point weekend with an assist in Saint Mary's sweep-clinching, 3-2 victory over St. Olaf the following day.
Â
For the season, Tushie has amassed a team-leading eight goals and has added four assists for 12 points.
Â
Tushie and the Cardinals (3-4-1 MIAC, 5-9-2 overall) are back in action on Tuesday, heading to the Appleton Ice Arena in Appleton, Wis., for a 7:30 p.m. nonconference game against Lawrence. SMU, which has its conference bye this weekend, is back in MIAC action on Jan. 26-27 with a two-game series against Bethel.
