Women’s Soccer Extends Win Streak in Shutout at Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. – The Saint Mary's women's soccer team improves to a five game win streak after shutting out St. Scholastica in Duluth Saturday afternoon. Lauryn Skoruppa records two goals and Hannah Bradley tallies one in the 3-0 win.

The Cardinals set the tone right away taking the first six shots of the game and earning two corners within the 15 minutes of action. With the pressure applied, Skoruppa made a nifty move at the top left of the box striking a ball with her left and found the back of the net to give the Cardinals the one goal advantage.

The Cardinals had four corner kick attempts in the span of two and a half minutes resulting in a shot attempt from Anna Warneke and Samantha Munson, both being saved by the Saints goalie.

A total of 15 shot attempts were taken in the first half for the Cardinals whereas St. Scholastica recorded one. The Cardinals had a one goal lead going into halftime.

Staying aggressive, a quick shot by Dakota Leonard opened up the second half of play, the shot was saved. Almost earning another goal, Junior Ella Lahart took a shot hitting the crossbar.

It wasn't until the 72nd minute that the Cardinals found the back of the net again after taking 12 shots in the second half. Another goal by Skoruppa gave the Cardinals a two goal lead with a shot from the top of the box falling over the Saint goalie.

Wanting more, Hannah Bradley retrieved a turnover in the midfield and took a long shot well outside the box and floated a well-placed ball over the keeper to notch her second goal of the season.

The Cardinals shut out the Saints and improve to 10-2-3 on the season and 6-1-1 in conference to beat the Saints who fall winless in conference. Skoruppa tallied her eighth goal of the season and leads the team. Anna Peckosh recorded her fourth shutout on the season.

The Cardinals return home to play Macalester College Tuesday, October 22nd for a 7 p.m. game.
