Sessler Saves Late Penalty Kick to End Game in Tie

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The men's soccer team traveled to Moorhead, Minnesota to compete against conference opponent Concordia Saturday afternoon. Looking to snap the teams five game losing streak, the Cardinals end the match up in a scoreless tie.

The Cobbers scared Cardinal's goalie Daniel Sessler at the 15th minute mark saving a header attempt. The Cardinals took the first punch and responded with two attempts of their own.

On the other end Cohan Hare took a shot that was saved by the keeper and Sebastian Martinez to follow at the 18th and 23rd minute of the half. The Cardinals had one more shot off a corner kick nearing the end of the half but not finding the net.

One minute remaining in the half, the Cobbers had the best look of the half resulting in a hit crossbar saving the Cardinals from trailing at the half.

The Cardinals had just three shot attempts to the Cobbers four in the first.

With a scoreless first half, the Cardinals were looking to nail a shot from Hare off a Caleb Gilbert corner at the 47th minute but resulted in a save.

The Cobbers were aggressive on the other end with three straight shots on Sessler, all resulting in a save. With the game winding down, the Cardinals became the aggressor with earning two corner kick attempts resulting in a close call from CJ Tree just missing left of the goal.

Coming down to it, the Cardinals gave up a hand ball in the box with two minutes left in the game setting the Cobbers up for a penalty kick against Sessler. It was a shot intended for the left of the net but it was saved to Sessler's outstretched arms to keep the game tied.

Neither team could find the back of the net resulting in a scoreless tie in conference play.

Sessler ended with six saves, one crucial, and Hare with three shot attempts to lead the Cardinals.

The Cardinals return to the pitch Tuesday, Oct. 8th traveling to play Ripon at 4 p.m.
