WINONA, Minn. - The Saint Mary's men's hockey team hosted an exciting white out game to cap off the homecoming week at home Saturday night. The Cardinals beat the Pipers 3-1 and advanced to 2-0 in conference play.

It took the teams about ten minutes to settle into game two of the series. The teams traded chippy hits and shots but could not land anything to start. At the 11
th minute, senior
Gabe Potyk tallied the go-ahead goal zipping it past the Piper goalkeeper down the middle of the ice. Teammates
Blake Arneson and
Nathan Solis with the assist. Potyk nets his third goal this season.

The Pipers responded within two minutes with a goal of their own. To break the tie, junior
Colin Tushie nails the second goal of the game, in similar fashion as Potyk, for his fifth goal of the season.

Both Hamline and Saint Mary's went back and forth recording shot after shot and penalty after penalty. Neither team could get a shot to fall.

That was until two minutes remained and
Cole Mickel netted the game winner of the game and the season.
Joona Juntunen and Tushie were on the assist. The Cardinals net the goal on a power play.

The teams were shut out in the third period after the Cardinals took 10 shots compared to the Pipers 12. The Cardinals recorded a season high 14 minutes of total penalty minutes in the third but their defense stood strong.

AJ Ruskowski had 17 saves in the conference win.

The Cardinals return to the ice next Tuesday, November 23rd at Lawrence for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
