OWATONNA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team could not have been any more perfect Friday evening.
How perfect?
The Cardinals swept every match against Crown, winning all three doubles matches 8-0, and all six singles contests, 6-0, 6-0 en route to the 9-0 nonconference victory at the Owatonna Tennis Center.
"It was good to get back on the winning track," said Saint Mary's women's coach
Jeff Halberg. "It was a solid performance all the way around."
The doubles teams of
Natalie Peterson (St. Cloud, Minn.)/
Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.),
Ella Boomgaarden (St. Peter, Minn.)/
Elena Ruzevich (Chicago, Ill.), and
Kathryn Stiegel (Sauk Rapids, Minn.)/
Lillian Kimber (Duluth, Minn.) set the tone with their 8-0 sweeps to give SMU a quick 3-0 lead.
And Peterson, Emily Donelinger (Bemidji, Minn.), Boomgaarden, Ruzevich,
Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.), and Stiegel followed suit in singles with straight-set 6-0, 6-0 victories to seal the victory.
The Cardinals (3-1 overall) return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend, hosting Gustavus at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, before entertaining Carleton at 1:30 p.m. the following afternoon — with both matches taking place at the Winona Tennis Center.
