ORLANDO, Fla. — The Saint Mary's University men's tennis team enjoyed a little fun in the sun Tuesday morning, as the Cardinals got back on the winning track with a 6-3 nonconference win over King's College during their second day at the USTA National Tennis Complex.
"It was a great win for the men today," said Saint Mary's men's tennis coach
Jeff Halberg. "Everyone contributed to the victory … and the weather was perfect."
Saint Mary's took control of the match from the start, getting doubles wins from
Evan Huemoeller (Owatonna, Minn.)/
Brendon Raabolle (Andover, Minn.) at No. 1,
Caden Rodning (Mason City, Iowa)/
Matt Besek (Winona, Minn.) at No. 2, and
Tucker Stene (Fridley, Minn.)/
Michael Johnson (Hastings, Minn.) at No. 3 to snare the early 3-0 advantage.
Rodning, Besek, and
Philip Apel (North Oaks, Minn.) followed up with straight-set singles victories — dropping just a combined nine games in the process — to seal the Cardinals' 6-3 triumph.
Saint Mary's (5-6 overall) closes out its three-match spring trip on Wednesday, squaring off against Albion College at 11 a.m. EST.
