MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team kicked off a three-matches-in-three-days weekend in winning fashion Friday evening, as the Cardinals picked up a 6-3 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over Hamline at the InnerCity Tennis Center.
Â
"What a big, big win," said Saint Mary's coach
Jeff Halberg. "Everyone made a huge contribution under tough conditions. It was a great day to be a Cardinal."
Â
Saint Mary's grabbed a 2-1 lead after the three doubles matches, getting an 8-3 win over
Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.)/
Emily Dondelinger (Bemidji, Minn.) at No. 2 and an 8-5 victory by
Ella Boomgaarden (St. Peter, Minn.)/
Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.) at No. 3.
Â
And the Cardinal dominance continued in singles, as Henderson, Dondelinger,
Elena Ruzevich (Chicago, Ill.), and
Natalie Peterson (St. Cloud, Minn.) all posted straight-set singles victories to seal the conference win.
Â
The Cardinals (2-4 MIAC, 8-6 overall) are right back in action on Saturday, as they return home to the Winona Tennis Center for a 1:30 p.m. Senior Day conference match against St. Scholastica.
