It’s a busy weekend for the Saint Mary’s women’s tennis team, as the Cardinals travel to InnerCity Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn., for a 2:30 p.m. MIAC matchup against Hamline on Friday, before returning home to the Winona Tennis Center for back-to-back 1:30 p.m. matches against St. Scholastica (Saturday) and UW-Superior (Sunday).

SAINT MARY’S SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: The Cardinals head into their weekend tripleheader against Hamline, St. Scholastica, and UW-Superior sitting at 7-6 overall, while sporting a 1-4 mark in conference play.
• LAST TIME OUT: Saint Mary’s had its four-match winning streak snapped on March 23, as the Cardinals dropped an 8-1 MIAC decision to league-leading and unbeaten Bethel at the Winona Tennis Center.
• WINNING BIG: Sixteen of SMU’s last 23 wins have either been 9-0 or 8-1 decisions — including a 9-0 sweep of Crown and five 8-1 victories this season.
• ROAD WARRIORS: Saint Mary’s match against Bethel at the Winona Tennis Center last Saturday ends a string of six consecutive road matches. … After Friday’s road match at Hamline, SMU will play four of their final six regular-season matches on their home courts. … SMU is 11-12 in its last 23 home matches — including 1-4 this season and 4-4 in 2023. … SMU has picked up 15 of its last 27 wins at the Winona TC.
• NEW TERRITORY: The Cardinals’ September showdown with UW-River Falls marked the first time in head coach Jeff Halberg’s 25-year tenure that SMU has played a dual match in the Fall of the academic year.
• STREAKING ALONG: The Cardinals’ wins over UMN Morris and Concordia on March 16-17 extended their winning streak to four — their longest since winning a program-record 11 in a row during the 2019 season.
• STREAKING ALONG II: With their 8-1 win over UW-RF on Sept. 16, Saint Mary’s has now faced the Falcons 20 times since 1997 — winning all 20 contests.
• STREAKING ALONG III: Fueled by their 8-1 victory against Martin Luther on Jan. 28, 2024, the Cardinals ran their winning streak over the Knights to 17. SMU is 18-1 overall against MLC — and have won nine of its last 10 between the two teams by 9-0 counts. … Saint Mary’s has dropped just 12 games in its nine doubles matches against the Knights over the last three years.
• PERFECTION: The Cardinals did not drop a game in their 9-0 sweep of Crown on Feb. 16 — winning all three doubles matches 8-0, and taking all six singles contests by identical 6-0, 6-0 outcomes.
• SINGLED OUT: Ella Boomgaarden (St. Peter, Minn.), Emily Dondelinger (Bemidji, Minn.), and Elena Ruzevich (Chicago, Ill.) all share the team lead with seven singles wins, one more than Natalie Peterson (St. Cloud, Minn.), and two in front of both Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.) and Kathryn Stiegel (Sauk Rapids, Minn.). … Boomgaarden heads into the weekend having won four of her last five singles matches, while Dondelinger has won three of her last four. … As a team, Saint Mary’s is 41-36 in singles play this season.
• WIN NO. 1: Dondelinger, Ruzevich, and Lillian Kimber (Duluth, Minn.) have all picked up their first collegiate singles wins this season. … Dondelinger and Ruzevich both posted win No. 1 in SMU’s 8-1 victory over UW-River Falls on Sept. 16, while Kimber picked her first win as a Cardinal against King’s on March 6.. … Stiegel was the lone SMU player to pick up her first collegiate singles victory last season, winning 6-2, 6-3 against Bethany Lutheran on Feb. 25, 2023.
• MIXING THINGS UP: Saint Mary’s has used at least two different players at every position this season. SMU has used five different players at No. 5 singles, three at No. 6, and two at each of the other four spots. The Cardinals used at least two different players at all six singles positions in 2023. Two different SMU players competed at No. 1 singles, while four competed from the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 slots, and five lined up in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions.
• DOUBLING UP: The Cardinals have had eight different doubles combinations account for their 16 doubles wins this season — with Boomgaarden/Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.) leading the way with six victories. The duo is 6-1 as a doubles combination and head into the weekend riding a five-match doubles winning streak. … Ruzevich/Peterson have teamed for four doubles wins, while Dondelinger/Henderson have three. … Individually, Boomgaarden leads the way with eight doubles wins, one more than Buerman, and two up on Peterson and Ruzevich. … As a team, SMU is 20-18 in doubles play this season.
• TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS: Thanks to their 6-2 show in their eight nonconference matches this season, the Cardinals are now 84-23 against nonconference opponents since 2012.
HAMLINE SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: The Pipers head into their Friday match against Saint Mary’s sitting at 8-6 overall, but HU is still searching for its first MIAC win of the season, having dropped its first five conference contests.
• LAST TIME OUT: Elana Kohner picked up wins in both singles and doubles, but it was not enough to carry the Pipers past unbeaten and league-leading Bethel on March 26, as the Royals dealt HU a 7-2 conference setback at Inner City Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
• ROAD WARRIORS: Friday’s match against Saint Mary’s is the second of back-to-back home contests for the Pipers, who are 1-4 at home this season. HU closes out its regular-season schedule playing six of its final seven matches on the road, where the Pipers are 7-2.
• STREAK-SNAPPER: Hamline’s 7-2 loss to Bethel in its last match on March 26 snapped its season-high four-match winning streak. HU put together wins over Salve Regina (6-3), Susquehanna (8-1), Scranton (7-2), and Brooklyn (9-0) prior to its loss to the Royals.
• SINGLED OUT: Elana Kohner heads into the weekend leading the Pipers with 11 singles wins — going 2-0 at No. 4, 4-3 at No. 5, and 5-0 at No. 6. … Vanessa Pham is second to Kohner with eight singles wins, followed by Chloe Reyes and Christine Muller with five, and Lynn Nguyen and Ashley Pitzen with four. … With her victory over Bethel on March 26, Kohner extended her singles winning streak to six in a row. … As a team, Hamline is 41-42 in singles play — including an impressive 11-2 at No. 6.
• DOUBLING UP: Kohner/Nguyen and Muller/Natalie Randall are the team’s winningest doubles combinations, both owning four wins, one more than Pham/Reyes. … Individually, Randall and Muller share the team lead with six doubles victories, while Kohner, Nguyen, and Pham are one win back with five. … As a team, Hamline — which has used 14 different doubles combinations — owns a 20-22 doubles record.. … HU has used at least three different doubles pairs at all three positions — three at No. 1, seven at No. 2, and six at No. 3.

• FOR THE RECORD: The Saints head into their Saturday conference matchup against Saint Mary’s owning an 8-7 overall record, including a 3-3 mark in MIAC action.
• LAST TIME OUT: St. Scholastica fell behind 3-0 after doubles play, and could not recover, splitting the six singles match in falling to Saint Benedict 6-3 in Virginia, Minn., on March 23.
• ROAD WARRIORS: Saturday’s match at Saint Mary’s is the first of back-to-back road contests for the Saints, who travel to Bethel next Saturday, before closing out the regular season playing two of its final three matches at home. … CSS is 3-2 at home this season, while sitting at 5-5 on the road.
• SINGLED OUT: St. Scholastica boasts a pair of players who have reached double figures in singles wins. Katia Bartels leads the way, going 12-2, while Julia Maier is second with 10 wins. Martina Garcia is one win shy of joining the 10-win club, with Maria Sosa sitting fourth on the team with seven victories. … Bartels has played at three different positions en route to her team-leading 12 wins, going 3-0 at No. 4, 8-1 at No. 5, and 0-1 at No. 3, while Maier as collected all 10 of her wins at No. 1, where she sports a 10-2 record. … As a team, CSS is 55-34 in singles play.

• FOR THE RECORD: The Yellowjackets head into their nonconference matches against Cornell (Iowa) and Saint Mary’s this weekend sporting a 9-7 overall record this season.
• LAST TIME OUT: UW-Superior has been off since March 14, when it concluded its spring trip to Orlando Fla., with a convincing 8-1 win over Ohio Wesleyan.
• ROAD WARRIORS: UW-S has played 13 of its first 16 matches this season on the road, and are in the midst of playing 11 consecutive road contests. After this weekend’s matches against Cornell and Saint Mary’s, UW-Superior will be at Northwestern (April 13) and Bethany Lutheran (April 20), before closing out its regular-season schedule at home against Crown and Martin Luther on April 21, and vs. UMN Morris on April 27.
