WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's tennis team had four players — seniors
Matt Besek (Winona, Minn.) and
Brendon Raabolle (Andover, Minn.), and juniors
Caden Rodning (Mason City, Iowa) and
Tucker Stene (Fridley, Minn.) — who earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® honors, it was announced Tuesday.
The 2024 Academic All-District® Men's Tennis Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Athletes must carry a 3.50 grade-point-average on a 4.0 scale, have competed in 90 percent of the institution's games OR must have started in at least 66 percent of the games, and made a significant on-field contribution to be eligible.
The Academic All-District® selection was the second straight for Raabolle, Rodning, and Stene, while Besek landed his first academic honors.
Besek, a Computer Science major with a 3.76 grade-point-average, made his senior season his best as a Cardinal, leading the team with eight singles wins, while adding three wins in doubles competition. Raabolle (Biology/3.79 GPA), who played at least one match at four of the six singles positions, delivered six wins in singles play and seven in doubles, while Stene (Graphic Design/3.62 GPA) and Rodning (Finance & Management/3.79 GPA) finished with seven singles/three doubles and three singles/five doubles victories, respectively.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early June.
