ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 MIAC contest to Macalester Tuesday evening at Hayden Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals (4-12, 0-7 MIAC) were unable to gain early momentum in doubles play, as Macalester claimed all three matches to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles.
In No. 1 doubles, the tandem of Gavin Pratt and Kanyon Hicks fell 6-1, while Zak Farley and Michael Johnson dropped a 6-0 decision at No. 2. Owen Fonder and Paul Havemeier rounded out doubles with a 6-1 setback at No. 3.
Saint Mary's continued to battle in singles play but couldn't break through against a strong Macalester lineup. Pratt suffered a 6-1, 6-1 loss at No. 1, while Farley fell 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 slot. Johnson (No. 3), Havemeier (No. 4), and Hicks (No. 5) each pushed through tough rallies but came up short in straight sets. Fonder capped the lineup at No. 6, dropping a 6-1, 6-2 decision.
The Cardinals will look to regroup as they have their final home match this Saturday, April 18 at 1:30 p.m. against St. Scholastica.
