Havemeier Earns a Point in Home Finale

WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's men's tennis (4-13, 0-8 MIAC) team wrapped up its home schedule on Saturday afternoon, falling to conference opponent St. Scholastica (10-5, 4-2 MIAC), 6-1, at the Winona Tennis Center.

Facing a strong Saints squad, the Cardinals battled throughout both doubles and singles play but were unable to overcome an early deficit after St. Scholastica swept all three doubles matches to claim the opening point.

In singles action, Saint Mary's continued to compete across the lineup, highlighted by a gritty performance at No. 4. Paul Havemeier delivered the Cardinals' lone point of the match, outlasting his opponent in a three-set thriller. After dropping the opening set, Havemeier responded with a 6-2 second-set win and edged out a tight super tiebreak to secure the victory.

Elsewhere, the Cardinals saw competitive efforts from multiple positions.

Gavin Pratt and Kanyon Hicks teamed up at No. 1 doubles and put together a strong showing, while Zak Farley and Michael Johnson also faced a tough test at No. 2 doubles. In singles play, Pratt, Farley, Johnson, Hicks, and Owen Fonder each battled but came up short against a deep St. Scholastica lineup.

With the home portion of the schedule complete, Saint Mary's will turn its attention to the season finale on the road.

The Cardinals are set to face Hamline University on Friday, April 24, with first serve scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
