Cardinals Scoreless in Iowa

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Cardinals men's soccer team concludes their weekend in Iowa against the University of Dubuque Saturday afternoon. The men were shut out against the Spartans in a 0-1 loss falling to 5-2 on the season.
 
Gio Barron had a good shot in the first 10 minutes of the game that just missed left. An unlucky foul in the box on the Cardinals gave the Spartans a penalty shot that just grazed past the finger-tips of goalkeeper Daniel Sessler, the Cardinals trail 0-1 at the 20th.
 
The Cardinals had another good chance to tie things up at the 35th minute. Cohan Hare with a shot at the goalie off a free kick opportunity.
 
The Spartans had a shot at Sessler late in the half but was saved as he had four saves of the half. The Cardinals had three chances in the first half to tie things up.
 
Down 0-1 at the half.
 
Only a minute into the second half, came a shot from Aldo Campagne that just missed high for an early chance. About a minute later Barron came down for another chance to tie the game.
 
The Cardinals shot the ball forward to Hare who slotted the ball in an was tapped back out to Brandon Fagiolo who kicked it high with the open look. Hare had another beautiful chip into the box for Francesco Cardone as he tried to flick the ball in, skimming the top of the bar and giving the Spartans a goal kick.
 
Sessler was tested again after a Spartans free kick got him off his line for a save at the 78th minute.
 
With about five seconds left in the game, the Cardinals had one more chance to tie things up as a foul on the right side of the box allowed one last free kick, it was cleared out and ended the game.
 
The Cardinals were shut out in the second and the goal in the first half was the game winner for the Spartans.
 
The Cardinals return to the pitch at home Saturday, Sept. 21st against Augsburg at 3:30pm and opens up conference play.
