Women’s Soccer Opens MIAC Play in Tie

WINONA, Minn. – The women's soccer team opened up conference play against Augsburg Saturday afternoon on a beautiful day at the Och. The Cardinals ended the match in a 1-1 tie.

Cardinals struck first after taking earning a corner kick less than a minute into the game and getting two shots at goal before the Auggies had any chances.

The persistent play of the Cardinals rewarded them with a 1-0 lead at the 17th minute after a well hit ball was played forward to result in a goal from Samantha Munson from Lauren Ashe.

The Auggies began to respond as they had their first chance at a shot at the 20th minute. The defense held strong and only allowed three shots in the first half as the Cardinals held the one goal lead going into half time.

Starting the second half just like the first, the Cardinals had three corner kicks in a row for two attempts at goal from Lauryn Skoruppa, neither adding to the lead.

The Auggies tied things up ath the 82nd mark after a ball bounced around in front of the net and an Auggie was able to stick a toe in there to seal the deal.

The goal came too late in the game for either team to try to take the lead ending the game in a tie.

The Cardinals return to the Och Wednesday, Sept. 25th for a 4 p.m. start against Gustavus.
