Clow, Munson Connect on Two In Cardinals Win

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – It was a perfect Saturday for the women's soccer team as they traveled to take on the Bennies of Saint Benedict. The Cardinals took down the Bennies in a one goal victory on the road.

The Cardinals took it at the Bennies in the first half totaling 12 shots on goal compared to the Bennies three. Lauryn Skoruppa had half of the shots and was the first three attempts for the Cardinals. With pressure like that, the Cardinals were bound to land one in the back of the net.

A quick thrown in up field and controlled by Skoruppa led to a wonderful crossed ball finding the body of freshman Maren Clow who nets the first goal of her career to give the Cardinals a one goal advantage at the 22nd minute.

The Bennies responded quickly tying the game at ones within a minute of the Cardinals goal.

The Cardinals tallied four corner kicks in the first half, two of which led to shot attempts. Off a corner the Cardinals had a shot by Dakota Leonard and Sadie Chrusciel to try to lead before the half.

Tied at the half.

Samantha Munson had the first shot of the half for both teams a minute after the second half whistle.

Both teams wanted the game winning goal as they traded off shot attempts for about 15 minutes. As the clock was ticking down, a free kick was taken by Skoruppa and the defense tipped the ball forward to keep it alive in front of the net where Munson got her foot on the other end to take the late lead with 10 minutes left to play.

The Bennies had no response and Cardinals goal keeper Anna Peckosh had five saves on the day in the win.

The Cardinals turn around and play tomorrow at home versus non-conference opponent UW-Stevens Point for a 3:30 p.m. start.
