WINONA, Minn. - Closing out a three game week, the Cardinals hosted UW-Stevens Point Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals would end in a draw against the visiting Pointers.
Â
The Cardinals played a slow half to start whereas Stevens Point was aggressive early, taking two shots within the first 3 minutes, both saved by goalkeeper Megan Nadal, who started the first time this season.
Â
Saint Mary's quickly responded by taking the ball downfield, with Hannah Bradley taking a shot, but getting blocked. A few minutes later at the 27th minute, the Cardinals with a free kick set up a shot for Lauren Ashe, being saved by the goalkeeper. More back and forth ensued until the 37th minute where Samantha Munson had the chance at a goal, but would miss in the end.Â
The Cardinals with three shots in the half were scoreless in the first. Tied at the half.
Â
To start the half, Ashe would take a shot right in front of the goal towards the right and it would find the net, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead early at the 47th minute.
Â
After some even play, the Cardinals found themselves in a scoring position. With hopes of adding to the lead, Ashe once again took a shot at the 53rd minute, being saved by the goalkeeper. With a lot of patient play going back and forth, Stevens Point would steal momentum by tying the game with a goal at the 67th minute.
Â
Stevens Point stayed on the offensive end for the next 15 minutes but the Cardinals would come back to life. Ashe and Makalya Clow would take consecutive shots in the 80th and 81st minute respectively.Â
Â
Trying to take the lead with 5 minutes left, Lauryn Skoruppa took the shot, but the goalkeeper saved it. Stevens Point responds with a shot, being blocked by Maya Wachter right before going in, stopping them from taking the lead.Â
The Cardinals ended the non-conference game in a tie.
