Hares Hat Trick Pushes Cardinals Past Wis.-Lutheran

WINONA, Minn. – The men's soccer team starts the season 3-0, the first time since 2018, beating Wis.-Lutheran by the largest margin of victory of the year at four. The Cardinals won 4-0 Friday, led by a historic performance by Cohan Hare who registered his first hat trick.

The Cardinals were scrambling on defense a majority of the first half as Wis.-Lutheran was taking it to them. Saint Mary's allowed three corner kicks to their zero in the first and only attempted three shots on goal compared to the Warriors six.

Daniel Sessler had three saves in the half to keep everyone scoreless.

Francesco Cardone took the first shot of the half resulting in a corner kick, resulting the spiral of goals the Cardinals. From there, nothing was stopping Hare from scoring. Hare scored a goal in the 62nd minute giving the Cardinals the first goal of the game off of a rifle of a free kick.

That wasn't it for Hare. Two goals later he notched his first career hat trick for the Cardinals with a goal in the 75th minute and another immediately in the 80th minute after a well-placed ball from Lucas De Goy.

Freshman Josh Pannkuk sealed the deal scoring his first collegiate goal at the 88th min assisted off a great Caleb Gilbert ball.

The Cardinals return home tomorrow, Sept. 7th for a slated 3:30pm start against MN-Morris.
