Soccer Ends Weekend In a Tie

WINONA, Minn. – The Cardinals end the weekend with a scoreless tie against Grinnell this afternoon resulting in the first tie of the season.

The Cardinals tested the Pioneers defense early. They threw the first punch, with a quick shot from Lauren Ashe that resulted in a save. Dominate in the Pioneers end, the Cardinals forced two corner kicks in a row for a chance at a lead, both drawing a blank.

The Cardinals were making strong plays forward but a heavy foot for the Cardinals drew everything long. The Cardinals chances came slim in the first half with only 2 shots in the first half, to be fair, the Pioneers had three.

Cardinal's best chance came from a free kick taken by Ashe from long and hit the left side of the woodwork at the 38th minute mark. Tied at the half.

Nothing going for either team as back and forth ball was being played on each end. The Cardinals had the advantage in the second with taking triple the amount of shots on goal as the Pioneers, nothing finding the back of the net.

Freshman, Abby Newby, had two of the Cardinals best chances at the beginning of the half and towards the end with two straight on shots, one wide left and the other straight at the keeper. Again, in the second, the Cardinals pushed many good looks forward, just a few too many just out of touch for the forwards.

Goal keeper McKenzie Munson posts second shutout of the year.

The Cardinals travel in a week to Platteville to take on another team of Pioneers for a 3pm start.
